isn't that just embarrassing? you clock out for the day. you grab a groceries to buy. you pay for those few items. you go to the break room and get your coat and stuff. you head out the door - then BAM - the security sensor decides to troll the hell out of you. all sorts of eyes all starring at your direction. the cashier looking dead at you. and all you can do is feel like a shmuck cause now everyone sees you as a thief even though you paid for everything in your possession. that happened to me today. god what a horrible feeling being put on the spot like that

OK, Just kidding. Which leads to my question: What is the deal with the loud noises that go off when some people come INTO our store? It is a loud "honking" then a ticking starts which comes from a screen (small computer monitor or something) that is placed on the wall near the door. The ticking continues until somebody presses "ENTER" on the screen. No one really seems to know exactly why it goes off. Why the ticking? Why do they press enter? What is the point of the whole thing? Everybody plays ignorant of the reasons for this stuff.
Does anyone who works at Kroger give me a really and truly INFORMED, accurate answer as to why the sound is going off, and what the purpose is? I was told it could be set off merely by car keys or metal in someone's purse. SO what? What good does it do us to know someone has metal in their purse,when coming into the store?? I don't get it!!!

Umm, that is the security sensor...
Our floor people used to carry a broom and dust pan thru the doors at night and it would go off every time. I think one of the white tags was stuck to the dust pan.
I think someone posted here that they strategically placed a white tag in managers' coat so they would set it off every time they walked thru the doors.
The honking is the alarm. The beeping is a timer. If not turned off within a certain time, the iron bars drop from the ceiling....
If you try walking into the lobby with one of the RF guns in your hand the sensors will go off too. I've had that happen several times early in the morning if I go to grab a grocery cart to do markdowns.
When that happens to me, I walk up to a front end manager, or more often to self checkout attendant, because that's where I shop most often. And I let them look at the bag. I don't need no trouble next day or days later telling me I stole something. Let's take care of it right there and then.

No one knows why it goes off when a customer comes IN the store. It is CLASSIFIED INFORMATION. Not even the Kroger bosses can answer this one.

just line you pocket with aluminum foil. Anything in your pocket that is tagged wont make the sensors go off.

Thats what i do as well. Ive got my reciept, and items. I hear the alarm go off, i walk out without a second glance. I did not "hear" it beeping at me whatsoever.
Certain mischievous courtesy clerks like to tag other employees, or place tags sticky side up on the floor. Anything I have, I have a receipt for so it doesn't really matter.
If I were going to steal, I would take a little cash instead, non-tagged items, or maybe just remove the ****ing tag.
