This isn't the worst case, but it's pretty funny. Had a female salaried manager get arrested for DUI ----she got caught drunk driving down a one way street the wrong way. The story made the local newspaper, and we were all laughing about it, reading it in the break room. A few weeks later, her face made it on the local Crime Stoppers network----failure to appear. CUSTOMERS were showing her picture around the store!
Crazy part is, she never got in trouble. That was years ago and she still has her job.

Come on now...You guys have to have some better stories...I know of one manager who got caught by another employee (without him noticing) in the backroom snorting white powder up his nose...If you're smart, you might be able to guess what that white powder might be...Starts with a C and end with an E, perhaps? I can say that he didn't work for Kroger, but he did always seem to have a very red face, as if he was sweating bullets...Of course, I just thought he had a bad attitude...When I was told about the powder, it all made sense...Eventually he got caught and who knows where he is today...
Another department manager who didn't work for Kroger was eventually caught for stealing cigarettes from behind the counter (before there were locks on those sort of things...and cameras) for TWO YEARS!!! He got so mad when he finally got caught that he stormed out of the place in a huff, pulled the coffeemaker out of the wall that HE brought in for the employees to use, jumped in his Jaguar, sped off and was never heard from again!
Another time, I personally witnessed a manager go onto a truck and pull off a pallet with a hand jack...There were no paper towels on the shelf and a customer needed paper towels badly...Unfortunately, three layers of sauce jars were stacked on top on the paper towels that when the jack hit a bump at the end of the dock plate, the whole mess came crashing down into one big mess...I foolishly offered to help him clean it up and he refused saying it was his mess and to go back to my department...Well, I can't say I didn't offer and I don't think anyone got their paper towels that day, as when I looked in on him a little later, he was still cleaning up the mess...Again, he got older and was retired, last I heard...
Anecdotally, I've heard about "romantic flings" over the years between store managers and other employees...Sometimes store managers and department managers...Or employees and other employees...Doesn't necessarily make it right, but it's not that unbelievable when you see what's happening in the churches, the schools and with the whole "Me Too" movement...And the only way it gets stopped is if you confront the problem...
With all of that said, you guys can't tell me you've never witnessed ANYTHING even remotely stupid...It could just be hearsay even and you don't have to name names, but I'm sure you guys all have SOME wild stories to tell! Maybe even wilder than mine!

Well just last week the store was in a apocalyptic state! The ACM was in a panic looking for their baggers and their #1 all time cart collector far.. cart warrior. The acm was paging these cretins for over 20 mins as groceries begin piling over the register counters and with no carts in sight. The ACM kept hearing car horns outside as if the store was about to be flooded with customers any minute. She acted quickly to get a hold of the situation! Customers were give a banana box to shop with and a ticket for the next available cart brought in asap. Kids were crying cause the kiddie carts were gone, elderly were in a uproar cause the double decker carts were empty and had no strength to push the one basket cart and just when things couldnt get any worse... a 400 pounder comes though the door just huffin and puffin sweatin up a storm, I mean just SOAKING! it was enough to give hurricane Michael a run for its money. She barely but manage to huff the words electric cart!
The store manager raced into action to help the ACM and the both of them started hearing MORE horns honking. But where was the influx of customers? They both look puzzled and again more honking was heard then a sudden small crash. So they both go outside and see the baggers and some CC's racing around the lot in carts. cart warrior and his illegal cart racers used the stores carts to block off the parking lot and made a track with the rest. Cart warrior's electric cart caught on fire which caused the CC on the kiddie cart to crash into the red box machine causing that to spit out Ps4 and xbox one games and blu rays all over the parking lot. A customer had dialed 911 prior to the accidents and the fire and police dept came. The other 2 baggers tried to make a break for it on their power carts but were blocked in. Cart warrior reminded the other CC he owed him a 10 second cart so the CC powered up the cart got off and let cart warrior make a break for it until his battery died at the top of the parking lot. Cart warrior wasn't fired though as his illegal cart racing drew the attention of thousands of customers who spent quite a pretty dollar making the store hundreds of thousands that day. but he was never ever to get behind the bars of another electric cart again.

Theres a co manager i know who slept with an hourly associate. She had a boyfriend who also worked in the store (they were dating before they worked there), they even had a kid together, but she left him to go sleep with management.

Co-worker was fired on the spot. Management left shortly after and quit because he reinlisted back in the military. Co-worker got his job back. Not too long ago the old manager came into shop. He was on leave and saw my co-worker. He didnt say anything out of line but he was NOT happy.

I've seen former dept. managers and even store managers come back into the store and they are definitely different people once they've been either demoted by management, voluntarily demoted themselves or just plain retired...Sometimes to the point of not even recognizing them at first glance because their whole look or demeanor is different! During a remodel, the closing AFEM was sneaking off to get boned by a construction worker in his truck. On the clock. Late at night. Within an hour of closing time. If she could have waited a few minutes and clocked out first, she would have been fine. Nope.
Write a schedule and a meat order when i had a family emergency. I told him i would stop in real quick to do it. It took me longer to undo her mess than it would've to do it from scratch.
