Both deli and meat department are 100 hours short

Are there any other stores that are short on hours by quite this much??

Not one but two people in the deli just stopped showing up this week, and with one full time person on vacation next week it put the deli 100 hours short. I offered to reschedule my vacation in the bakery to help deli but the store manager said no since we're running out of time to do vacations. But i feel terrible for them trying to run deli, salad bar, and close the bakery after 5pm two days next week while running 100 hours short. It's going to be impossible...

And yeah our meat department has been in the same shape for quite a while now.

Our deli is running between 100-140 hours short for the last month. I havent been able to use all of my bakery hours either. They still havent hired anyone for either department. I have woked 3 of my five vacations and still have 4 personal days to use.  Even though management knows we are short on help they still expect everything to get done. This is in the Columbus division

I've heard our deli is over 100 hours short too.  In addition to not having enough help, it screws up our E-Schedule score.  A passing grade is 85.  Deli manager said she got a 22.  How can you get a passing grade if E-Schedule is trying to schedule hours for people that don't exist?  Also deli and bakery, especially bakery have specialized tasks.  You just can't schedule anybody to do a job and expect them to be able to do it.

I'm usually hitting in the 72 range or so, i can't hit 85 with everyone's weird availabilities and whatnot. The deli manager here scrutinizes the hell out of that graph and tries to hit an 85 but it's getting harder and harder for her to do so.

I usually hit between 79 and 84 percent on my bakery schedule. The deli on the other hand hasnt made it above 65 percent in months.

our meat is 80 hours under.  and someone else just stopped showing up.  but yet everything still has to be done or we are terrible workers, you'd think since they are so short, they'd be more appreciative of the ones they have.

scott hays came out swinging and wanting to play hardball, it backfired on him and now the entire KMA is a mess and short on staffing.  and we have not seen the last of the mass amount of people leaving for jobs like Target and Whole Foods who not only pay more but they treat you a lot better and make it easier to have a family / work balance.

That is another stupid thing. We are under on hours but they want everything done and absolutely no over time. Things dont get done then we still get bitched at.

Ive been working 6-7 day weeks since right after the July 4th holiday. We have been short on staffing because no one wants to work at Kroger.

Its legitimate because:

1. they refused to renegotiate the six year contract for wages, benefits, ect.

2. the  screening process for hirings has changed in the past two years, more complicated and less effective.

3. background checks have been taking up to 21 business days (about  calendar month)

4. the new training program designed to better equip new hires and improve retention makes it harder and longer to "train" someone. Much of the material covered is non department centered and not related to the job.

5. New programs come and go, as if we are a fly by night outfit. Waste integration? that lasted 6 months.

6. Early Retirement program from last year left a huge whole in the above store level management. Also, the old timers are being forced out, the younger people are in.... They don't know ****.

7. in the county where i live Unemployment rate is just under 2% with warehouses and factories paying up to double minimum wage and better hours and benefits....

8. The employees who are holding things together are starting retire or just quit...

9. on a personal note, The KTv for the Columbus Division are an effing embarrassment. I honestly thing they smoke crack and look each other beforehand

Welp. Thanksgiving & Christmas are both gonna be real fun... especially for the deli and meat market. It's pretty much too late at this point to hire AND effectively train someone for either department when Thanksgiving is less than a month away.

Our meat department is about 120 hours short this week because we have literally no one, and they've been telling us that we're going to be getting new people for like a month now. It really really sucks because everyone is very nice and trying their best, but it's not enough.

Yea, my lead deli back up manager has mentioned our deli and bakery have been 100 hours short for months now as well. I didn't realize that we had a score on that sort of thing though. But yea, do to my store consistently getting ****ty help in the bakery, I'm being "dragged back to hell" so to speak to work back over there kicking off tomorrow and then no doubt next week. And also on the new-ish schedule coming out tomorrow too. So the end of this year is going to be such "fun" for me.

I mean I get things are about for the needs of the biz. But seriously though, if they really wanted to think about the needs of the biz, they need to stop listening to my DH say that the bakery is fine(working with 8 to 9ish peeps(excluding the 2 other deli back ups that work down there at times as well), and actually start cross-training deli peeps like how I was cross trained for deli. I mean at the old store there were some deli folks that were brought down to help package and bake at times. But now we only have one that fills in for the bakers when they are on vacation or on personals. And then another that has came down to bake once and a few nights ago closed. Cause our last new hire had called off for the umpteenth time. But any other time can't, get a hand from deli at all throughout the day unless it's one of the back up managers and it is sooooo frustrating at times(most especially if I'm the closer). Even more so, since we've gotten in what, 5 new deli peeps, to just 1 bakery new person.

I say all of the above because this is quite literally what the bakery at my store is facing right now: we've had the bakery back up step down and is going back to school/doing the baking shift for now. And likely will be putting in a notice once she finds another job. We have one of the back up decorators(the golden child, that is such the apple of the DH's eye) already searching out another job too. And might have a shot at getting it, as she has gotten her degree finally. The other baker we had put in her 2 week notice as well not too long ago. The main cake decorator has been asking union about how soon she can retire. And the resident loudmouth is essentially looking forward to next year when she gets more vacay time, so she will configure a way to combine her personals and vacay time, so she will figure out how to only work one or 2 weeks a month or something. And she doesn't even want to cover as lead as often any more since the incident that occurred with her and the customer and the cake image.

Can only fill in so many gaps with the back up managers. But seriously though, we are in a VERY sinking ship right now. And just cause they keep tossing 48 hours or so at the full-timers for the coming weeks. Does not patch up what is already being lost so quickly.
