If you work during your vacation
Permalink

If due to extreme understaffing you work a day or two on your vacation (and you don't mind it at all because you're bored as hell during your vacation) are you paid at regular overtime rate or how does that work? I was told if i came in i'd be paid OT on top of my vacation but wasn't sure if it was at regular time and a half or what.

I thought it was considered "Double Time", meaning 2x your wage...... along with your Vacation Hours.

Ha... my store is so understaffed the deli manager is going to have me come in tomorrow (i told her i would, i wanted the money) because the store manager told her "do what you need to do" with overtime since the deli is 100 hours short...

I don't think she told him *I* would be coming in, but she asked everyone else first and no one can work tomorrow.

Double time at $18 an hour for 8 hours... he'll probably want to kill both of us, but you know what, this could have been avoided if he would have worked with her on the schedule like she asked over and over again all week.

Are you sure you get overtime if you work during your vacation?  Technically you're not working overtime.  When I had jury duty for two weeks, I worked on the days I didn't have to report for jury duty.   On the days I had jury duty, I srill got paid for 8 hours work at Kroger.  Since jury duty was only Monday thru Friday, I had Sundays and Saturdays as my off days.  I ended working a Saturday.  So at the end of the week I had over 40 hours of pay from Kroger.  It was all straight time pay.  None of the "hours" over 40 were paid as overtime.

Here in the Columbus division it is just straight pay. I am working my vacation this week and getting my regular pay. So basically I get an extra paycheck.
