Is it common to have ONE person manage one WHOLE department?

I see this at my store,

One person manages the natural foods,

One manages the kitchen aisle,

One replenish clerk,

One person having to manage a whole department.

Is this a common thing at your store or is this just common in general?

Your question is hard to follow.  Not sure what you are asking.

This is what I see at my Market place store.

One person manages the Meat department.  I think another manages the sea food department.

One person manages the Bakery with a back-up.

One person manages the Deli with a back-up.  I think Sushi chefs manage themselves.

One person manages the Frozen Department.  Not sure about a back up.

One person manages Produce with a back up.

One person manages the Front end with a back up.  I think front end manage the fuel station and Starbucks but they generally have one person in charge each.

One person manages Dairy with a back up.  Probably cover for the Frozen manager when on vacation.

I think One person manages Drug gm, toys, clothes and Home goods with a back up.

One person manages the tag team with a back up.

Grocery manages Grocery and Natural foods with a back up.

Pharmacy manage themselves.

I manage Night grocery with a back up.

We have one store manager with 4 co managers that manage the entire store.

Within any organization there can only be one person who makes the final decision.  They're like the captain of the ship.  Back ups are like first officers and can offer input, but the final decision is up to the captain.

That's common except for really high dollar stores. There's two grocery managers at mine but every other department is one lead and maybe a backup.

Yeah not sure what you're asking because my store has:

Front end manager, 4 backups
Grocery manager, night leader
Produce manager, assistant
Deli manager, assistant, Bakery manager (me), Starbucks lead (Starbucks is under Deli like bakery)
Meat manager, two assistants, seafood manager
Drug/gm manager, assistant
Liquor manager, Frozen manager, Dairy manager, Nutrition lead, and last but not least
Clicklist lead and supervisor.

We have 3 co-managers (one is on sick leave) and a store manager.

As far as management, this is how most stores are run. I know the closest marketplace to me has two Produce managers, and they have 2 deli assistants.
