Can they write you up for not staying?

Our department head keeps waiting till the last minute to clean up stuff and thinks we're required to stay over 8 hrs whether it is due to his late cleanup or finishing the truck. If you leave, can they write you up for not working the overtime due to him not allowing us to clean up on time. Also can you be written up for not working over your scheduled 4 hr shift?

Note: I'm only scheduled 4 hours each night, I only stay 8 to help get the job done.

No, they cannot write you up.  They can try but all you have to do is refuse to sign it.  Some contracts say you can be asked to work over if they ask you at least two hours before the end of your shift.  I know I always hate it when I have an early shift and my supervisor, who comes in a few hours later, decides about ten minutes before it's time for me to leave that she needs me to help her with something.  Excuse me? you may still have several hours to go on your shift but my shift is over.

I thought I read somewhere that they can ask you to stay, but you dont have to if you don't want to.

I would be all like "seeya"

Nope. They can't make you stay unless it's an emergency and the store manager is there. Other than that you leave when scheduled. This is another reason they started putting schedules out 2 weeks in advance. They try to make you stay. Leave. Then file a grievance the next day.
