.......today I haver officially topped out today. My final pay raise has finally kicked in. Four grueling hard years as a night grocery stocker and I can now happily kick up my feet knowing that I will be making $18.18 an hour. I can't believe this day has finally come. I started at $7.25 an hour. Now I have officially arrived at $18.18.

Man... I do not know what to say. I know a lot of you lads on here have already been topped out for years now. But for me this is quite surreal. Like, Ive been slaving this long to reach this moment. Practically begging managers to top me out the past few years. But they couldn't cause of union contract, blah blah. But, I finally earned this. I will probably have a few beers right now since I just got off work. And play some video games. On my next night off I might order myself a pizza to celebrate. Thank you and good night.

That's great. Glad you finally get to experience higher and steady pay. I still have a ways to go. Although we are having a contract and wage increase vote going on this Thursday. But funny thing is, nobody(that I'm aware of), even knows what was even decided on, so we can have an informed vote. It's also so far out of the way to get to the voting location, that I don't think many people will be able to even make it out to vote either.

not the OP but just keep going until you reach the top. it is well worth it. sucks for baggers who quit the job super early. they do not realize what awaits them on the other side if they simply persevere

They quit because they can go someplace else and make more money starting out than they would staying here for years.

I think if the respect, benefits, and understanding is there between associates and their leads and managers. Then yea, I can see them sticking around and persevering as you mentioned. I just think at times those things aren't always present and coupled with such lower pay. And having to deal with ever growing demands to do more and more, with so little given back in return. Yea, can lead to folks up and leaving rather swiftly.

Or being fed up, as peeps at my store's bakery are experiencing.

I wish I could cap out over $18 an hour...here at my store in Central Division I can only make $12.40 as hour tops as a regular employee.  Department heads only get a few dollars more an hour so even they don't come anywhere near close that.  Baggers make the least at just over minimum wage as their top pay.  Yeah, we definitely get screwed over compared to other Union contracts.  Problem is nobody votes on them so we get stuck with whatever Kroger wants.

luckily I started around 2014 and am now making close to the same as the OP. I got lucky as a mf'er. several months after I started, my Union decided that anyone who started in 2015 will only cap out at fifteen dollars. which is about the same as walmart stockers. i received a letter in the mail a week ago from my Union office and apparently they are gonna change things some more and want us to vote on it. i feel bad for people who are coming into this company late late late. they are gonna get screwed the worst after all the original working team retires

Must be nice, I have been with the company for 8 years now and only make $10.40. Columbus Division sucks just like this F**king company. We just had a contract and these idiots passed it because they got scared Kroger was going to close a couple of the stores. You make $18 dollars and some of us do the same job you do and make $10, how is that right. F**k this company and everyone of the big bosses. So we can have this companies name on a Football Stadium but can't afford living wages.

I'm not a stocker but I make 20 and some change and I be been with Kroger for over 5 years. And its embarrassing and ridiculous. Then certain managers actually think, you will kiss their ass at that pay rate. Yeah right.

$18.44 in Colorado, stocking... plus that overnight dollar. I've been topped out for five years or so now, and it's depressing how minimum wage (now $10.xx here) keeps going up and my pay stays the same. Then I get management asking me if I want a foreman position. Yeah, right, a whole 'nother dollar an hour just so I can get stressed out even more than I already am over this company's terrible management by volunteering to take the blame for every little thing that's out of my control. This store I transferred to about 7 months ago now is such a s**t show, though. In the last week, one foreman was fired, the other quit (over stress), and the grocery manager quit (also over stress). So many other people in this store have left because of the store manager, who has a legitimately region-wide reputation for being a ginormous jacka**. Where's the punishment for people in his position?! He's burning out and scaring away good workers left and right, while us at the bottom get yelled at, written up, and fired over dumb s**t. There are only two of us on this crew with more than a year's experience, too, and because I have a special GHC shift that the ape came up with (volunteered for it, just to get away from personal interaction with said ape due to opposite scheduling), I'm only able to help them with load for a couple hours on an average night. At least I'm full time. I think about getting a job somewhere else, but where the hell am I going to go that starts me out anywhere near this until I go back to school for something big? Kroger pays you just enough to trap you here, unless you are the type of person that's incapable of independent thought and so have that desire to move up and be conditioned. If you work for the company and don't make near as much, get out before you're stuck.

Ugh, sorry for the rant. Congrats on the topping out.

-Dave

I've been at Kroger for 5 years and only got 12.20 an hour with an overnight premium shooting to 13.20.  WTF!  God I hate right to work states!
