Ive been working at Kroger for 2+ years, now this is confusing I have had various front end, store and assistant managers (3 or more for each). If I have customer fill out a check is D/L #, DOB, Telephone # supposed to be written out on it? Those it have to be filled out completely or just have the customers sign their signatures? Im confused some says/said no dont have them fill it out and no dont ask for drivers license unless the system asks you for it.
I dont know of any check that needs you to write that information on. On a register you can either write out the whole check and just run it through by hitting enter, or print the check by hitting clear. If they print all they have to do is sign. The Check processing company (Certegy) will sometimes ask for an ID but generally thats if they havent written a check there recently or sometimes because of gift cards or high amounts. Thats when you enter their DL number. Payroll checks and stuff are completely different process but you won't be doing those if you dont work at the service desk.
Well, I cant speak for other stores, but for our front end, this is what's needed. That the check has the name and address on it, and that's all. Only ask for DL if the system prompts you for it, and if it does, no need to write it on the check as long as you typed it in. And the usual... check must be written out to Kroger, and the amount must be written out in word form and numerical form. And customer must sign the check. Machine reads the check numbers, prints (for some reason, our store's printers don't print on checks and coinstars and never have, haha), and done!
Been doing it that way for over a year. Nobody has said anything to me about it.

The printers at your store most likely don't have the 2 print ribbons installed or installed correctly. If you look at the printers, you have 1 ribbon that is installed by opening the front flap, the 2nd ribbon is located under the receipt paper. On the left side you will see a button that allows you to install the "smaller" ribbon.......

What's funny is they had a maintenance tech guy come buy and fix and replace all the printers on the registers and Uscans last week, and... they still don't print.

Who knows, I have never been a fan of the "New" printers. Never really had too many problems with them, unless they wouldn't accept a check it read the MICR numbers. The only reason the checks wouldn't print would be the ribbon being not seated correctly or completely missing. On your next shift, look at the left side of the printer and look for the button under the cover to replace the receipt printer.....

Okay, so I looked at the printer. Opened the front facing flap, the one where the check goes through. I saw the ribbon cartridge thing. The only thing I could do, was I guess what the lables on it were telling me, to roll the ribbon with the little roller thing on the left side of the cartridge. Which moved the ribbon across the cartridge. But the next time I went had a coinstar to print, nothing happened.
I assume the cartridges are out of ink. But see, I asked around and there's no ink cartridges for them.
See, it can't be the ribbon missing. I see the ribbon. When I twisted the roller, the ribbon moves. Yet, nothing prints. And I made sure the cartridge is seated correctly, or so I think, cause I pressed on it and that's as far as it goes.
Did you check the other ribbon? You described the "larger" ribbon, but there is another. I believe the "smaller" ribbon, prints the information on the back of the checks, etc. The attached image shows how to access the other ribbon area.

Oh there's a smaller ribbon? I don't remember seeing a third opening like the one in your picture. But, then again, I don't have the thing in front of me. Oh, okay. So the larger ribbon prints on the front of the check and the smaller prints on the back, huh. This is interesting cause I remember a few times I decided to take a customer's blank check and see if it would print the payment info on the front. It didn't and I had to make the customer write it out.
These ribbon cartridges, I'm just going to assume they're just out of ink and need to be replaced but my store doesn't give a ****. But i'll try to access that smaller ribbon area when I get the chance.
