What you should have done is to inform the your direct manager weeks ago so that the schedule can be made accordingly.
Do not call out that day.
Talk to your direct manager today instead especially since you have just been working 6 weeks.

Omg I've worked 6 weeks, i'm entitled to holidays off!

If this isn't a troll post, then you're probably a terrible worker so it'll be ok when they fire you.

Im sure youll be fine as in youll keep your job, but it wont really go over well with your coworkers and makes you look unreliable (if you couldnt tell from fellow posters). You may still be in new hire probation, when they can fire you for pretty much anything. Do what you want but understand the consequences.

Do it. This job isn't worth it. When you're looking back on your life you'll remember the outings with your family more than the crappy days you spent at Kroger.

Unfortunately, that's the mentality of people entering the workforce today.  When you grow up in a society where they give you a trophy for just participating or a diploma even though you haven't done the work,  then you end up with a sense of entitlement.  I'm going on 30 years with Kroger and I've only called out sick at most four times.  The last time was over 20 years ago.

Thats cause youre a loser. You need those pennies Kroger pays you to make ends meet. Most people have real good paying jobs.

And why not? Why spend your time on a holiday at Kroger instead with your family? Its fine if lonely sad hermits like you want to work others who dont have your lifestyle shouldnt

People, look at the bright side of this piss-poor work ethic junior here is displaying: employers are actually reaching out to some of us older workers now, because they know they can count on us to A., show up on time and work a full day, and B. NOT be hiding all day scrolling our phones. I got hired on at a high-paying factory job that had always only hired aged 30 and below applicants------and this is all how one of the foreman explained it to me.

So kiddos, keep fkin up. We'll gladly take your jobs biggrin

"Work ethics" are just a way of indoctrinating people so that they feel proud of their wage slavery instead of miserable.

I'm working a 10:00-4:30 shift today. we usually don't start eating until 5:30 or 6:00 or so. So it works out fine. Plus, time goes by super fast. What seems like 30 min of work, is actually 3 hours into your shift.

And my point went way over your head, my point was that those of us who have actually been around longer should get the day off before some kid who's worked 6 weeks.
