Cannot take a 15 min break for working only 4 hours???

In my department, there are many small leads.  Everyone one of them interpret things differently.  I just started working for ClickList for a month part-time.  I only work on Sundays for 4 hours.  In the previous weeks, I could take my 15 min break 2/3 or 3/4 way through, whenever I was done the trolley.

This past Sunday, I was asking my lead if I could take my break 2/3 of my shift.  He refused me and told me that I couldn't take a break within 4 hours.  I could instead take my break after I work for 4 hours.  Then, i told him that I would be off then.  And he answered, yes that's when I could take my break!  WHAT????

Taking my break after my shift is over does not make any sense to me!!!!!!!  A break means to temporarily not working in order to go back to work later, does it not??

I don't understand why an 8-hour shift can have either a full 30-min break or TWO 15 min breaks.  If you break the 8 hours up into 3 sections in order to have TWO 15-min breaks in between, each 15 min break can be taken after 2.6 hours of working.  That' usually what I did in the previous weeks.  Why can I not this time????

breaks are by states so not much help here but most krogers are:

4 hours you get 1 fifteen minute break

6 1/2 hrs  you get 1 fifteen minute break and a lunch

8 1/2 two fifteen minute break and a lunch.

minors are a little bit different but it various by state

so you can most likely just ignore that " lead ", take your 15 and they can't say crap

If you're not working a register all you have to say is I'm taking my break.  You don't have to ask for it.

You are entitled to your break during your shift. Your boss is an idiot. Contact your union rep.

Youre entitled to one break within the 4 hrs of your shift. If worse comes to worse sneak away "on business" if you can and take your break. Even if its just 5 min or so. Thats exactly what i do st times when they TRY and pull that happy crappy with me.

Contact your union rep. I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

Read your contract.  My contract (Louisville Division) says that breaks shall be given as close to the middle of the work period as possible.

15 min break if you work 4 hours. Another if you work 6. Then a 30 minute unpaid if you work 8. Then anything over 8 you get a 3rd 15
