You could try, but I don't know how well it would work though because they can distribute hours however they choose. They're only supposed to distribute a certain number of regular hours an a limit of so many overtime hours depending on store. If they go over corporate gets onto them for it. You should ask your union steward about that. At our store the only time, they call people from other stores is if there is no way in hell we are getting done with or without overtime. We usually work overtime as needed to get the truck done. The only time we are not allowed to work overtime is if it is a very small truck and not much else to be done.
I don't know the level of people coming to "help", but I would say its a valid grievance. If its "scheduled" you should have had the right to bump the hours, if it wasn't, you should have been given the opportunity before bringing in others.

Our contract actually allows store managers to ask if we will work straight time instead of overtime hours. I won't volunteer my spare time cheaply.
If the employee is scheduled that day, then they can't grieve it.
If a clerk from the store wants the hours and is capable of the job, they can grieve bringing people in from another store.
