A couple years back I worked for Kroger as a nightcrew stocker. I wasnt very strong but I worked hard so Id develop some muscles, this job is agony if youre weak. Let me start by saying at least my location, this job absolutely does not care about weight or strength differences. If youre a small man or woman youre pulling the same weight as people five times your size. Its just being fair I reasoned as I was assigned every hard aisle we had. I was usually assigned two different aisles, one was for petfood and laundry detergent, the other was for beverages. The senior employees never seemed to be in pain, then I realized why after filling in on their sick days. The senior employees were fiercely territorial over their aisles, the easier ones, the ones they would purposely stay longer in so they wouldnt have to help in the harder aisles. No one wanted my aisles, thats why newbies were assigned to them.
I spent two years busting my ass. Trying to get stronger so it wouldnt hurt, gaining mad respect from the big guys. I got hurt a lot, but I was young so I always bounced back.
One day after working 18 days in a row I was just tired. I wanted out of this crappy job, so I found something else a hell of a lot easier. I didnt realize the toll Kroger took on my body until I was gone. I saw a doctor because I was in a lot of pain and one of my feet were going numb.
Spines messed up. Ive already spent a couple thousand to fix it and it looks like it will cost a lot more if it comes to surgery. Partial paralysis is in my future if I cant be fixed. I handicapped myself for a **** job, with **** pay and a **** boss.
I wrote this to warn ANYONE out there considering this job to be careful(maybe run) because places like this will chew you up and spit you out. Put your health first because they wont. Dont act tough to gain respect, its not worth it.
My new job is incredible and I wish more than anything I never worked at Kroger. My jobs patient and kind, they know Im hurt. I wish I could give them my best, but I gave it to Kroger instead.
Great post! ... Did you post some stuff re. of the pain issues two years ago? I seem to remember reading it.
You're absolutely right: Nobody, not management nor co workers, give s asingle F U C K about you or your health. And yes, they all will delightedly let you ruin yours before they risk theirs. F u c k 'em all in their rotten mouths.---Their sister's, too
I hope and pray you get better soon, or at least eventually. Sounds like you're off to a better future than that with Kroger. Best to you, friend.

Sorry! I cant get punctuation to work on this forum for some reason, typing from phone.
Nope! Not me.
They really dont care. My coworkers even began to see how bull **** it was. If youre young, theyll hire you. Youre another body to use and discard. I had a manager trying to put me in another section of the store because they needed hands and it would be easier on my body. My assface supervisor basically had a tantrum to keep me so my manager let go of the offer and threatened to write me up if I complained. I quit days later.

I got a bucket at one asle they calling me for another I cannot walk fast they kelp calling over the radio. I almost told them to stand there with your mouth open. I understand where you're coming from. When I first started we had more senior guys who would run the toilet paper aisle first, leaving us to run all the cans. Nowadays we have so few people that we just start in aisle 1 and go as far as we can, in order. This way everything is fair. The only variable is how big that day's truck is (or how heavy it is on canned goods versus paper). But like OP said, yes this job will wear you out. I've got over a decade in and have more pain than I ever dreamed of. I can't imagine working in meat and having to wrestle those huge boxes of hams or turkeys.
