Think of all the people you know who have came and left, how many of them leave and come back or tell you they truly regret leaving? We have a few who come back, but at the end of the day it is a minimum wage job and one that's demanding. What percentage of people do you think regret leaving? I'd put it at 20% if not lower
I was in my mid 30s and a worthless drunk when I hired on. I wasn't fully aware of it at the time, but my addiction was the sole motivation behind my so completely lowering all life expectations and career decisions. Retail jobs can be done by literally retarded persons.
I stayed there like that for over a decade; on my last year I sobered up, turned my life around, got some $$ together, took some job training at my local college, got on board with a new career..............and have not so much as glanced at my rear view mirror since.

I could LEAVE, but they're paying me decent here where I can pay rent and still have some left over. However, I am thinking of leaving next year for either Merch or skilled labor. Kroger ain't worth it as much anymore.
Really, the only thing worth missing is cheap insurance. That's it.
Otherwise, it's just dead end retail hell.
I imagine other retail places are very similar. The main difference being what product is stocked. Imagine not having to destroy your back stocking canned goods. I wouldn't mind working in an actual sales job where you get commission for your sales (I'm thinking electronics, applicances, etc. though those would be heavy as well).
