Insubordination?

I got into a dispute with a pic very recently over my refusal to accept extra hours even though I had an emergency. I was sent home early (ironic right?) for insubordination because I was asked to do a task that was not in my jurisdiction that would have had me stay after to complete. I'm very nervous because my pic threatened to invoke disciplinary action action but I think I'm I  the right, aren't I? In that I am able to leave when my scheduled shift says I am off, as long as I have been managing my time wisely and efficiently?

The best thing to do is to don't shop at Kroger and put this organization out of business.

Money talks.  If you're getting the shaft make it your life's mission to find another job.

"If you refuse to stay past your scheduled shift, we will send you home early!" That's epic!

Does anyone see the nonsense of that????evileye

It's almost as if "insubordination" ISN'T even a punishment anymore!!!

Go home??? In this case, that's what the OP wanted to do in the first place! Go home early??? Well, that just gives the OP more time to get to that emergency that was obviously more important than staying after at Kroger to work...

The logic behind these "punishments" makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever, if they are not accomplishing the purpose they were intended for...

You can't "punish" someone for something that they don't see as a "punishment"...

Kroger LOVES to throw the insubordination word around a lot. Co manager tried to pull that crap with me-to make a long story short, there was no refusal and it was bargained down by the union to a note to file which disappears after  6 months. She even involved the floor supervisor that day. I asked for disciplinary action against the co manager (which I got) and for the floor supervisor a 1 week suspension-but he transferred out before any action could be taken against him.

Real question: If you won that big a victory, why should you even have any kind of proceedings paper in your file? If I understand this right, that's a link that could be attached to something else to still hurt you. I'd want that outa there.

Most contracts give management the ability to tell people to mandatorily stay after their shift for an hour as long as the person is told an hour before the end of their original shift.

If you are part time, you might be able to avoid mandatorily staying past your shift.  Ask your union rep to clarify.

It's not wise to argue with you superiors when you do not clearly know the rules.

Make certain your availability is clear on eschedule.

But part of the problem (at least in my store) is that e-schedule is not always followed. I indicated I am never available on Sundays but I still get scheduled (the reason being claiming the store is short staffed.) But it is not my responsibility to hire people!!!!
