Active Shooter Video/Brochure...

So not sure if my store is just behind or if something has happened at another branch close by. But we finally got talked to about potential disgruntled employees coming in and shooting up the place. Had to click and agree to the video after seeing it as well.

Was curious if any of the peeps that worked with Kroger the longest, have had any sort of training on what to do prior to recent events or no? Cause that was the first thing that came to my mind when it was brought up.

Been with Kroger for almost eight years now. Management doesn't even make it clear what to do in the event of a tornado warning/severe storm event, let alone what to do should someone decide to walk in and start shooting up the place. The first Kroger location I worked at had a poster in the break room outlining what to do in the event of an armed robbery, but none of my others stores have anything like that and as I said "training" is non-existent at the stores I've worked at as to what to do in such a situation.

I can believe it. Hell my own DH said that his response would be, to out run two of the older employees in the deli. So if that says anything, then not much help for the rest of us, than get out of dodge too, I suppose.

And honestly, didn't miss much from the "training". Was the typical avoid the shooter, but let folks know what's up. Block the doors and try to find safe exits. If possible, defend yourself. And call 911. The usual SOP of things. Just was strange that our one store manager said it was just so "intense". But not by half really.

Or just trip him, as he is most likely the one the shooter is most ticked with. FYI, not many like my DH in the store. So he might already have a few targets on his back already.

Bring a concealed weapon to work everyday (smallest but effective pistol) and fire back in the opposite direction.  Just don't ever tell anyone you're packin' heat.

Welcome to Texas, ba-itches.

In a way I can respect that. Too many crazies these days and things jump off too fast. We do actually have some customers that carry knives with them though, if not their guns. But yea, most might have that too.

My question is: If someone was fired from Kroger are they allowed back in their old store as a customer?

I would imagine that you would be. I mean just cause they fire you, doesn't mean they can ban you from shopping there. I've seen countless new hires come back there and shop all the time. Many don't though, cause they most likely feel as awkward as another poster mentioned about being around former bosses. But yea, nothing they can do to ban you from the store, unless you are a danger to others or something.

The "Active Shooter" video was shown at our store (all the employees were required to view it, and indicate they had seen it), maybe about 2 months ago or so.  (Louisville division).

We had to watch it a few months ago, because my store manager was actually emailed a threat saying that someone was going to plant a bomb and/or shoot the place up.

It really did happen because i actually saw the email, he had left it in the printer and i saw it before they told the rest of the store...

I had talked it over with the deli manager at the time, and honestly the best plan we really had was run out the back produce doors.

As long as they were not banned from ever stepping into that particular, then yes, they can shop in there.

I would say that is some kind of crazy. But just a few hours ago before I got off of work tonight, we had a active shooter incident at the Wal-mart down the road/over a parking lot or two from us. Someone came in and allegedly shot someone.

I thought it was kind of a drill or something cause my one friend was like why is the cops going through the parking lot with the lights flashing??? And I thought it was cause someone was in an accident(which is highly common, as the street my store is on is notorious for hit and runs, accidents, robberies(a Tim Horton's held up just last week), etc.) So I thought it was something else altogether. Before the managers started coming around and telling everyone to stay calm and check on all of us and let us know that the Wal-mart employees were asked to leave the building and they caught the guy out in the back field, etc.

So I'm guessing someone must have known something was going down the other day when they started having us watch the video. Just kind of something else how fast it goes from a video one day, to an actual situation the next. I still can't quite take it in as being real.

I own 4 guns myself, more if you count the ones they don't know about in private sales lol.

Then you had better hope you don't have a gun in your hand or near your immediate vicinity when they see you, or you will be in the most uncomfortable and perilous position ever. When the cops say "show me your hands" it means right the f now and slowly with them empty or you face the imminent possibility of getting shot and killed then and there, there is no argument. The gun makes the situation 500 times more tense because the cops are in fight mode, and all they see is an unknown threat. It's much much worse if you end up encountering SWAT units making an entry into a scene like that behind the first responding officers, because they won't play around, they'll give you not even 3 to 5 seconds and a few orders, one wrong move, and you're now bleeding out on the floor, no questions asked. They don't care, and they won't because their job is to neutralize the threat (shooter)

Yep, this is very true. Best to keep your hands clear and free and don't even sneeze. As trigger happy as some cops are these days, they'd likely blow you away just for having a nervous twitch. So definitely do NOT be holding anything at all, is my advice.

In Kroger's defense (and it's rare for this company to have a defense regarding, well, pretty much anything), there really isn't much any training the company (or any company for that matter) could provide that would be effective in such a situation. Survival instinct will kick in and people will try to reach the nearest exit or head to the seemingly safest hiding spot and call 911 from there.

Thats what youve been told. But your mother does have secrets... dirty secrets at that. Ill look for you guys on Maury Povich.  bring those tissues

The fact that you are STILL, waiting for that show to call you,  is what is worthy of the tissues. Really got to let them issues go.

The fact that after 18 men have been tested and the results came back negative to find the father is dishearting. cry  Some day though youll find that father

Ill bet the robber was your dad biggrin

Are you still mad you can't find out WHO your daddy is? Gotta get over it already.

You seem a bit agitated your dad committed a crime so early at the start of the new year. no

Only crime committed is your mom forgot to swallow.

Can't say the same for you since your mom is sure #11 is the father (we hope)

LOL, you are beyond hilarious. I'm my mother's ONLY child. Your's probably is still trying to figure out which one you are.

So that's what you do in your spare time...no clue who your own father is, but out here trying to help others look for theirs. Keep living the dream and watching Maury like it's CNN. Maybe, just one day, your daddy will want to remember the night you came to be....no promises though.

Bakerchick25, I can't believe you are getting so involved in this ridiculous Troll-hijacked nonsense thread. The thread now has no relevance to the original title concerning active shooter threats.

I have read your posts for more than a year (or two) and I know you are better than this! You are above this kind of drivel!   Ignore the nonsense.............the troll (he or she) is just messing with you.  Forget about it and lets move on to more important subjects at Kroger!
