What Kroger doesn't do enough for its employees :)
But seriously, the ONLY mention I can find of Kroger Pay even being a thing is some engineer's resume on LinkedIn, it says they " Participated in the design and development process of Kroger Pay."
So probably yet another failed attempt at Kroger to throw tech crap at the wall in an attempt to compete with Amazon, and see what sticks. All while not maintaining the infrastructure and people needed for it because executive bonuses and shareholders come first.

I'm sure its just another way for customers to pay. The problem is, people will want to use it everywhere......if its listed as "Kroger Pay", I'm sure it will not be accepted anywhere else. I see a lot of things just being introduced to get media attention and show "innovation", but in reality its getting away from the core business. Anyone remember "Customer 1st" ? Eliminate the unneeded to streamline the customer experience. Shelves that blink or strobe like a fluorescent light are not innovative, its just something to get peoples attention (not in a good way). Believe it or now, people really just want what we called the 4 KEYS. People, Product, Price and Experience when shopping somewhere.

Honestly my experience is people are primarily interested in product and price and that's it. My store stopped pushing the three A's a couple of years back, for example. Many of the customers I pass in the store are busy on their phones, shopping, managing their kids, talking with a companion and so on, and don't care (or want) "people" in the form of Kroger employees saying "hi" to them or talking to them. If they need help, it's a different story, but otherwise, they just want to get their stuff and go.
Apparently, my store and a couple others have been chosen as test stores for this Kroger Pay thing. In fact, I intercepted a couple customers who were sent to purchase something and pay using Kroger Pay to test it out.
Also, I hear the self checkout software will be getting security upgrades, some kind of image recognition software that will use the overhead cameras to recognize what the customer is scanning and compare it to what is actually being scanned and put in the bagging area and will alert the attendant if something is fishy. Similar to Lane Hawk and BOB items.
Google "Shoplift" and I'm guessing this is what your talking about. Yes, Stores near DT Cincinnati, always test stuff, as they are easy access to the decision makers. Guessing this is what your talking about. https://www.supermarketnews.com/news/kroger-adds-chase-pay-mobile-payments
