Would our stores be safer for customers and employees if we had actual off-duty police working? We have had incidents in our store where all our guard can do is escort the person out-they do not have powers of arrest.
Yeah, our store occasionally hires off duty cops. They used to do it a lot more in the past, but for the past few months it's been like maybe one or two days every two weeks. Not an everyday thing.

None in any of the remaining three (there were four) stores in my town. One of them got shut down over rampant theft. it was in the worst area and they'd foolishly stuck a doofus punk kid in there as a security guard, who did nothing but ---literally----stand there scrolling his phone. Kids would laugh at him while tweakers robbed the place to death.
Armed actual cops is what is needed in today's retail environment, but most businesses are still too cheap to part with the money. So we're going to continue seeing ^ prices....and more failed stores, as time goes by.

Well, we'll still see higher prices if they hired actual security (Loss Prevention doesn't even exist at my store... there are just the managers... oh and those useless, fake recordings "Security, pick up line 102. Security... line 102")
At our store, I've noticed lately that the undercover loss prevention team has been showing their heads more frequently. Yep, undercover loss prevention team. They go around fake shopping, with cellphones instead of walkie talkies, catching bad guys.

That would be absolutely crazy. It would be non-stop arrests and drug busts for at least a couple weeks until all the trash was taken out.
Our main security guard is morbidly obese and completely uninterested. The customer comments about her are hilarious.
Loss prevention is only for harassing employees once or twice a month. I don't know what the rest of you guys are talking about.
True. At my old store they sent in a crew to deliberately set up all sorts of surveilance equipment in the warehouse----and the breakroom. I've seen management and AP looking scrupulously over security footage of employees....while street thieves were cleaning the place out. Bullsh!t.
That's crazy. I guess my store, possibly my division, must be unique. Our loss prevention actually focuses on the klepto customers. They could care less about the employees. Heck, took them months to figure out one employee was stealing hundreds worth of food on the side. I have never once heard of an employee being asked to see their receipt.
