I know an associate that has been working in Kroger in Versailles, KY. This person has over 25 years of retail experience. She was hired in part time several months ago. She has excelled since day 1 which could be expected with her experience. She has applied for many full time positions and in each circumstance has not even received a response. Her numbers are excellent and all associates working with her value her greatly. I suspect that this is a case of age discrimination. Is this type of discrimination common within Kroger? Is she simply wasting her time trying to excel to get hired in full time?

Does management value her? Does she inform them of her interest in the position when she applies? Kroger rarely hires based on work ethic.
Her immediate manager values her. Other management doesnt seem to know she exists. She has traveled to other cities to interview for full time positions and its always the same. They dont even have the decency or professionalism to respond. management keeps promising to get her on full time but always seem to busy to bother when she inquires. Most of the managers in this store are barely out of High School. Ive told her to just move on and find something else but she is a loyal person and takes much pride in the quality of her work. Thats why it is so hard to see her be treated as if she has no value. With her experience she can do ANY job any the store. I cant believe management is too busy or too stupid to see it.

Actually the days of unions are coming to an end. They are not needed anymore. All it does is protect the incompetent. Dont know who AJ is. If they are in management its probably someone that has already made a promise that hasnt been fullfilled.
What types of positions is she applying for? In reality anyone looking at an application can basically say she has too much experience.
What kind of logic is this? Too much experience? Are you implying that this applicant will tell the higher-ups that they're doing their job wrong LOL
Not at all, but with experience comes applicants wanting more $$ or other benefits. Think of a CEO of a company applying for a "normal" position, the hiring manager has to think to themselves, why is someone with this mush experience applying for this job? We will not offer the $$ or anything else the applicant has previously, why spend time and energy going down this path. Everything decision is about perception, if your too old you will not be able to do the job, if have too much experience this job will bore you, this job will not allow the applicant enough money.

OP is probably exaggerating with this so called associates work ethic. Every customer knows most associates are lazy uneducated non helping drones. They need to VALUE us a whole lot more.
It's not an age discrimination thing, it's a full time thing. Outside of management or department head, full time just isn't a thing anymore.
If full time were still a thing (which it isn't), priority for the (nonexistent) slot would depend on seniority. At several months in, she doesn't have any (not that it matters).
At any rate, she is indeed wasting her time. Not only is working for Kroger generally a waste of time, but she is wasting her time in trying to get hired full time, and additionally she is wasting her time in trying to excel (which only causes problems).
Outside of guaranteed full time, a management position doesn't pay significantly better than topped hourly pay.
