Really Kroger, even in a story as serious as this, you still gotta figure out a way to work "Feed the Human Spirit" into your statement?
Anyway, feel bad for the kids that got profiled and the family in general. What happened to them was wrong and we should be beyond this sort of behavior in this day and age. Did the managers even bother to review the security camera footage before calling the police? I'm guessing Loss Prevention wasn't in the store at the time because I know LP would have handled the situation with more care and delicacy.
Not sure of the consequences that I'd impose on the manager that called the police; either demotion or termination, especially in light of the manager's attitude when he explained why the police were called. You could argue the manager just needs "retraining" but it seems to me he should have known better, especially in how he handled things with the mom.
I'm not in management but I just KNOW there had to be two or three better ways this could have been handled.
Come on. You guys work retail, right? Per capita, black people steal like freaking crazy (and I'm not even including EBT). What does it take for your store to call the police? At my store, things need to get goddamn ridiculous.
I'm willing to bet they were loading up and played the race card to get out of it because they figured it would probably work. And it did.

EXACTLY! Mom probably taught them all at a early age. Telling them their entitled to everything and when you get denied or caught stealing just play the race card and youll get away. Probably loaded up on candy and sodas.
"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We have yet to live in such a nation.
Does the race card get played sometimes? Sure. So does the gender card. The religion card. And every other card in the deck. Doesn't mean you should condemn and look down upon ALL people in a particular group just because a segment of that group does bad things.

Amen! We need a few more people thinking like YOU in the world...It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day after all...They put the date on the calendar, but it apparently that doesn't mean much to some people...Does anyone really think we're gonna get far as a country if we keep thinking backwards all the time? And rehashing the same old diatribes? Thinking backwards hasn't worked before, so what makes anyone think it's gonna work now???
We need to start thinking RADICALLY DIFFERENT if we want things to EVER change in the world!

you mean like how most blacks still call each other niggas or how over half of them claim they deserve reparations? Using that backwards thinking to try and get handouts?

BAM. This ^. One of the four Kroger stores in my town got literally run out of business from rampant theft, all of it from black people. Some things you don't need a microscope or forensic evidence for. And it's not racism if it's accurate.
If we had a criminal justice system, economic system and education system that treated all people of all backgrounds fairly and equally, then not only would misconceptions based on race begin to disappear, but we'd also be addressing the root causes that do force people of certain races and backgrounds into situations that lead to poor and/or desperate acts/decisions.
Using three obviously left leaning links does not help your argument. Any neutral sources?
Just because you don't like the sources doesn't make them any less valid. Every single link I posted has at least one if not multiple studies and reports cited. I could provide links to multiple sites that reference studies and data, like http://www.drugpolicy.org/issues/race-and-drug-war and https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jul/10/cory-booker/how-war-drugs-affected-incarceration-rates/ and https://www.futurity.org/police-minority-drivers-1472392/ and https://eji.org/news/black-children-five-times-more-likely-than-whites-to-be-incarcerated and https://openpolicing.stanford.edu/findings/ all of which point to justice not being blind.
The reality is racism is still very much a real thing and it does skew the statistics, so just saying a particular ethnic group is x times more likely to commit crime is not giving the whole picture or being entirely honest about the situation. And to be clear, that's not to say caucasians don't get profiled or unfairly treated in the criminal justice system. The point here is it's morally wrong to stereotype and profile people and what happened at this Kroger location was indeed wrong.
