Can you pay for gift cards with a check?

Big discussion tonight in our store (District M)...apparently you can pay for gift cards with a check. Manager wasn't sure if it was a $1500 or $2000 limit. He called several different people above him 3 said no, one said yes. Apparently there is a policy change here we knew nothing about. I am a Utility Clerk but was in the area and heard the conversation. I remember in training they said there was NO way a customer could pay with a check for these items, because technically they could put a stop payment on the check yet they still would have activated gift cards they can use. Does ANYONE know what the Kroger policy is?

I'm a cashier. In my store, for some weird reason, you can pay for gift cards with a check. I've tendered several customers recently that paid for their gift cards with checks.

It might be because the checks are cleared through a credit reporting agency before the register accepts them.

Our front end has us send anybody buying more than $1000 in gift cards to the service desk.

Yes, you can purchase gift cards with checks. Checks are like credit cards, if you feel the customer might be a little shady, ask for the FES for assistance.

I've seen checks get declined with the message "void gc's and retender check" (or something similar), I've also seen people successfully pay for gift cards with a check. It might be on a case-by-case basis (how much the gift cards are for, if the system "trusts" you, etc.)

I know for sure you can buy and reload Kroger GC's with checks.

As long as they have use checks before (to pay for groceries) then the customer can pay for gift cards with a check. If it is the first time a customer is using a check from that account then the register will not allow you to buy gift cards (or write the check over for cash back). It will give the message to void the gift cards and they will probably need to write a new check for the lower amount

The Enterprise policy allows checks as payment for gift cards. However, there's a couple of divisions that don't allow it.
