Produce PLU percentage
Permalink

So, I've been checking for a few months now, and I was noticing on the produce scanning effectiveness chart that I had hand-keyed in over 100 items.....I don't even know that many PLU's, and I only hand key in things like tomatillos and some of the coffee, so can anyone tell me what I seem to be doing wrong, and how to fix it? Another question I was curious about is if I'm running SCO, do produce/bakery items hand-keyed in by the customers also count against me on that list? Thanks!

None of those things at SCO effect you. There's a specific list of produce that counts and doesn't count. Coffee wouldn't count.

The # of items doesn't matter as much as the %. Your goal is 75% or more of all produce gets scanned and not hand keyed.

Bananas are the most common scannable produce item.  Remove a sticker from the first convenient bunch of bananas. Stick it under where the gun sits so it's extra easy to scan, and there's an easy bonus right there.  If a customer has multiple bunches or a bag of single bananas, use the tag to ring them up as individually as possible in order to pad your numbers.

Careful! We got chewed out for this by corporate, as it defeats the entire purpose of produce scanning. But if you can get away with it ;)

Also I've heard you can add a bunch of 0's before you type a PLU in to make it look like a barcode (like 0 00000 04011) instead of 4011, dunno how true that is.

We heard last year that 0's trick doesn't count any more
