I've worked in the Louisville division for over 30 years and it's always been 1 day off for a grandparent. Also, you only get the pay if funeral is on a day you were scheduled to work and you actually go to the funeral. If the funeral happens to fall on a day you're already scheduled off, you don't get the bereavement pay. Bereavement pay is given when someone can't work. It's not an extra day of pay.
Bereavement pay should never be something you enjoy getting, believe me. But IF needed, you will get 3 days up until the funeral. I was paid all 3 days when i needed to take it, i returned to work the saturday after the funeral.
In reality it all depends on your MGR, yes the policy is only to receive it when your scheduled. But depending on your relationship to the family member and anyone in their right mind should knows there are things that need to be taken are of before and after the funeral.
Yeah, if i remember right, my 3 days weren't consecutive, i think i had a day off in between. They still paid it. But this was an immediate family member, and they knew I *never* called off work, so it really does depend on your manager as well as your relationship with the manager/store.
Here in Atlanta Division, You get 3 paid days that you were scheduled. but they don't have to be before the funeral. There is no mention in the union contract about when you have to take funeral pay. You have to just keep in kind, the bereavement pay is not just for the funeral. Arrangements and grieving happens before and after the funeral itself.
Depends upon the contract. To my understanding it's three days bereavement pay. Regardless of seniority you should be able to use it. If you want more you can always dive into your vacation pay. But then you won't have any for the remainder of the year.
