Do you have to count your freezer every day? We have to fill in a chart with how many cases are in the freezer and how many cases came in on the order. The chart shows the daily sales budget and how many cases we should get based on that. No one from corporate has been able to tell us why we have to do that. It serves no purpose. If I need 90 pieces to come in and the chart says I only need 50, I'm still ordering 90 pieces on the order.
It's a part of the waste integration program it's designed to see your trends from last year and how much u are ordering for the wee. I fill it out but I don't really pay attention to it just another idiot at the head office that got paid to think of stupid crap that doesn't help you and waste more of your time

It has to be done in Produce now also.
Bottom Line: These charts are an inane waste of time and they imply (in a subtle manner) that the employees are too stupid to use their brains and think on their own, i.e. apply their past experiences to the various problems that will come up each day, and dealing with them.
A lot of this stuff is just simple math (you can figure it out in your head......such as, if you are low on something in the stockroom, say iceberg lettuce, just from past experience and "intuition" you could come up with a fairly good idea on how many you should order, depending on what day of the week it is, whether a sale is going on, whether a holiday or whatever is coming up soon.
It's just a matter of gaining experience, and using the brain that God gave you. Writing down a bunch of stuff (like PPSTs for cut fruit) is a waste of time, waste of paper, and serves no purpose. You would be better off to actually cut up the fruit, and save a little bit of time wasted while writing down figures that no one will look at. The papers will be thrown in the trash within a few weeks or months anyhow.
Too bad the people in Corporate who think up this stuff don't seem to understand the concept of basic common sense............ LOGIC.
Here's what I think they're trying to do. I think that they're trying make each store exactly the same so they can automate everything and eliminate jobs.
No matter what though, each store is not going to be the same, i mean they prove that by the way they treat certain stores. You go from a multi million dollar marketplace to one of the smallest stores in the whole division that's a matter of what, maybe 15 minutes away? Obviously the employees know they aren't being treated the same...
I think it's about automation. If computers can order, adjust BOH and do all the things people do, then they can eliminate more and more hours/people. If everything comes prepackaged, less people are needed to stock service departments and produce. We are basically teaching computers to do our jobs.
