So it has been almost two months since I had a schedule where I actually had more than 25 hours a week. That was back in January. Since then it has been NON STOP every week of terrible hours. I went from 30 plus and upper 20's to 18 hours now. It seems that this is the new reality. I simply cannot believe that we can blame this on being the "slow time of the year"....IT'S BAD. I am pretty sure I lost my medical benefits as my hours and all my co-workers are seeing such small hours weekly. On your opinion, will we ever have it like the old days again? I mean really, I don't see myself or my team members on the front end getting more than 20 hours a week now. Sad, just sad. Also people always getting scheduled outside their availability too. Cluster****!!! Anyhow I will put in my 2 weeks notice if I do not see an improvement in a month...which there probably won't be.
They usually have a slow period. At least from my experience. But as for scheduling outside the availability I dont believe they can do that. It's been done at my store as well and the people just worked to their availability and left. It got managers mad, but it is what it is.

Welcome to Kroger.
When I worked there as a courtesy clerk, my hours were similar to your own. Of course, I also had a total bitch manager who was vindictive as hell and could easily play with your schedule if you frustrated her so much a tiny bit.
I ended up having to take a second job. She didn't like that idea. Gee, maybe I wouldn't have had to take a second job if I had been able to make a living wage of some kind. But if you make $100 per paycheck and have expenses such as groceries, well, there goes your paycheck (or at least most of it).
I am proud to say I have been Kroger-slave-free for nearly four years now. What really got me, what stunned the hell out of me when I worked there...among other things...was the idea that senior employees could literally steal (take?) hours from employees who had not been there as long.
The phuck?
That, and their ridiculous ELMS system which would cause them to call up employees from Dairy, Floral or other Departments to assist with bagging groceries at the Front End...which, in turn, could cause difficulty in those departments. I saw several times where no one was available at Floral because they were bagging up front, and I pitied our Dairy stocker because he would always be called up to help. I don't know how the hell he did two jobs at once.

This is normal. I went through the same garbage. This was 10 years ago though. It's gotten worse not better. This is the reason why the company can't keep courtesy clerks is because they don't make it a livable job, you get treated poorly by society and grocery workers are discriminated against by society and wived upon as a s.hitty job. If you're lucky and transfer to a high grossing store you'll get full hours. Horus are now based upon availability. If you have one restriction you're screwed.
It takes fuc.ken for ever to get promoted to any other grocery index job. I was heavily discriminated against for years and said to hell with it. The fastest way to get promoted is to be a floater between stores. Apply for the openings as they happen. It's about the only way to move up the grocery ladder. That's why most courtesy clerks go to meat/seafood or deli. Get away from this garbage. I use to love it then people started getting fussy rude about every litter damn detail. They started to harass me about little missed detail. If customers complain it takes it to a whole new level. I was the best damn courtesy clerk then they harassed me to uncivilized levels and I decided enough and left. Now they realize they lost a valuable courtesy clerk and it hasn't been the same sense. Pretty much don't be an ass hole to your morning cleaner to a harassing level.
