I really hope you guys can get out of retail. If it's your thing, you're ok with staying hourly and have no advancement plans; or if you're management and it's working good for you, why change a good thing? But c'mon-------most of us in this field don't r e a l l l l  y want to be here.

All I'm saying is, it can be done. You may have to get fired to force the needed change, but believe me---in no time you'll be glad just to be GONE.

yesss!  They're too scared.   "muh 5 or 6 weeks of vacation."  I'm in the process of giving up my 3 weeks of vacation for a job that gives close to 10 weeks of vacation.  Don't look back.  Hourly LMAO.  That's fine for an entry level position...just a step above fast food

After two years of blowing smoke about pay raises and putting me into the management training program, a better paying M-F job came along and I quit. My last week, they finally began offering more pay and a management track. Sorry, y'all can't compete with my new pay, schedule and benefits.

Too many retail managers get stuck in the industry, because they'll have to take a significant pay cut to switch careers (unless they have a bachelor's degree and go into consulting). My store manager was a terror because he was basically stuck in a job he hated, but no one else would pay him 6 figures. Maybe retail was a decent career once upon a time, but it's a dead end now. The only lucrative part of it is analytics, and for that you can't work your way up from the sales floor.

I agree with you. The firing thing though is complicated. Many employers look down on you if you were fired from a job for any reason, you will also need to explain it to future employers when it comes up. I suggest doing as well as you can at Kroger until you can find something better. That is what Im trying to do.

No one belongs with this company.  It does everyone a disservice to encourage the existence of companies like this by working for them or by shopping there.  Don't cross the picket line.  Get ready for the new job NOW.

The economy job market is hot enough that you'll pick up another job fast. We had people get fired from our store and go on to better paying grocery chains fast. I wouldn't make it a point to get fired though, it's still a black mark on your record.
