How many of you give Kroger your cell phone number?

We have a new FES in our store who wants to have everyone's cell phone number "in case we need to call you." To make a long story short I refused, said that my time off is my OWN. I don't want to go into details (that would ID my store and my location.) I can count on one hand the number of times Kroger DID call me when I did have a phone (2 or 3 at the most.) I have privacy concerns and under our union contact there is no mention of us having to have a phone (at our own expense of course.)

Don't complain when you don't get hours and they try to call you, but you didn't give them your number.   It's 2019, what are you 85 years old?  Everyone has a cell phone and it's generally a good idea to give it to your employer.  Front end associates (especially those who work in the office) have a number of reasons why they'd need to get ahold of you.

Legally you don't have to give it.  They have it in the phone directory the number they can contact you at.

They only have my land line number.
I hardly ever give out my cell number and certainly not to my employer.

I gave mine out. Nothing says you have to answer your phone. I sometimes come in if I'm not busy doing something major. Last time they called, I was planning on going fishing. I said I could come in for FOUR hours because I had plans. No problem. I just changed my fishing plans to when I got off work and went then. Plus I had the next 2 days off so I really didnt mind at all.

If it's the only way they can reach you, then yes you have to give them your cellphone number.  If you still have a landline, then all that's required is that you give hem that number.  You also don't have to give out your e-mail address if they ask for it.

this.  I never go in for more than 4 hours, but this is my second job so they can't expect too much.  At least I always reply back to them when they text asking me to come in.

Well, considering a cell phone is the only thing most people have, they don't really have a choice.

It would be SO easy for Kroger to use one of those apps like "Find My Phone" to locate you if you didn't return one of their calls. As I told our new FES. once I clock out my time is my business.

How so? If you turn off location in your settings they can't locate you at all. The most they can do is b*tch at you and make your life h*ll at Kroger but that's the most they can do. On my off days I just ignore it. Plus I don't think they would send someone out to find you. (Although they DID send someone to find me on my lunch when I was eating at a take out place in Kroger shopping center. When I didnt come back early, let's just say im.surprised I survived the death flares management gave me.)
