Southwest Division Finally Rolls Out Two-Week Scheduling
Permalink

If we're not the LAST ones to get this, we gotta be ONE of the LAST ones to make the switch. Seems like they've been talking about it for 3+ years now. I'm confident at this point ALL the kinks have been worked out and it will be a super smooth roll out.

...

None of the department heads at my store seemed to know that this was starting this week. At least two claim they first learned of it when clocking in one morning this week because there is a flyer posted by the timeclock.

lol

I don't like two-week scheduling because you have to plan everything as much as three weeks in advance.  Right now at the time of this post, the earliest day I can ask off for is Sunday. May 26.  That's a full 19 days in advance.  Wh knows what could come up in that time.  If someone asked me to do something Saturday, May 25, I wouldn't be able to ask for the time off because requests have to be in by 6 PM the Sunday two weeks prior to the week containing the day you want off.  Kroger may tell you this is a good thing, but it's not.

 Same anonymous again:

Back when we did handwritten schedules, you could wait as late as the Tuesday the week before you needed the day off to submit your request.

it's funny because they treat it as if they're making things easier on us.  Like another poster said, a lot can happen in two weeks.  "hey wanna hang out a week from saturday?"  "no, I have to work"....used to be "sure I'll be sure to get that day off!"  Oh to have a real job that doesn't require working weekends...

It's according to Kroger (or I should say the Associate Insight Survey) that "we" have been asking for this and Kroger has "listened".

I find it hard to believe two week scheduling was the thing most associates were asking for.

It doesn't bother me anymore because i'm used to it but yeah when Cincy/Dayton rolled this out, i assure you this was not anywhere near the top of the list of things we were worried about. The week you had to do two schedules to catch back up was interesting though.

We don't have two week scheduling in the Atlanta area-at least not yet

That's when you say "sure I'll be sure to get that day off!" and then call off.

Two week scheduling is great you can plan a life.  If you're life is procrastinating then it won't work for you. Yes it sucks for last minute stuff but I had one job with two three week scheduling and it's great. You can look at the calendar and go I can do appointments/life on these dates.

That argument doesn't work.  If something is planned weeks ahead, it doesn't matter if your store follows one-week or two-week scheduling.  You're still going to put the request in on time.  With two-week scheduling, your entire life is tied up with Kroger for three weeks at a time.  Yes, you do have to plan things around your job, but having to plan everything 3 weeks ahead is a bit much.

I scheduled unavailable days for myself and the times I'm available to work so that way its the same thing every week and I don't have to wait for my masters to tell me when I'm going to have off.

But then what do you do if something comes up last minute and it's not on one of your normal off days?

I try to schedule it off or if I don't think I'm going to get it I just call off.

I do this sometimes.  It never fails, if I'm scheduled to work early saturday morning, my buddy will be off (different depts), if I'm off, he'll be scheduled to work.  So, sometimes I'll just randomly ask for a Saturday off...if I get it, great, if I don't oh well.  We're so short handed that they won't try to screw us and cut our hours if we do this.  I've been off Saturdays for awhile, and might just keep it that way...I deserve it after nearly 2 decades.  We've got a pretty good rotation going so it's cool

OP here... I honestly don't get the POINT of two week scheduling if the online schedule KEEPS CHANGING! I don't see how I or anyone working for Kroger benefits from the supposed "advantage" of being able to plan ahead by seeing the following week's schedule in advance when the online schedule keeps changing. Like my days of next week changed AGAIN for the third time since my original schedule went live on the first of June. Multiple changes have happened now every week since this dumb thing rolled out in my division, yet I'm still required to submit requests three weeks in advance because of this stupid new way of scheduling.
