The "living our promise" crap they keep coming out with is so strange.  I didn't make a promise to anyone, and neither did any other minimum wage slave in this store. Does anyone actually take that kind of thing to heart?  It seems like the kind of schmaltzy motto you'd find at a medical center or something.

The thing that pushes it from annoying to cultish though is how much they're trying to make it a thing. We just had to make the switch from uniforms to just aprons over our every day clothes (trying to save a buck) and I was surprised to see their "living our promise" list printed on the inside of the apron, like someone is going to flip it over and look at it for inspiration or something.

The people who come up with this garbage aren't living in reality.

Did you miss that today was the 24th?  The calendar of caring says today "Everyone Friendly and Caring" or some ****.
Way too many people in upper management pushing out NEW PROGRAM after NEW PROGRAM thinking that One of them will eventually work and make a difference.  What a WASTE !

They don't even listen to what the employees are saying!

They really don't. It's funny because in addition to new programs, they think they can win us over by doing token nice things for us every so often. Like before the company evaluation a week or two ahead of time they grab some expiring treats off the shelf and put them in the break room to make us happy. And then when it actually is evaluation time they print off pictures of all the nice things they've done for us and hang them on the wall to make sure we remember. Yeah that's great and all but it would be nicer if you raised our pay and stopped making stupid business decisions.

One time in a video we had to watch it even flat out said giving raises to employees doesn't raise their job satisfaction and I'm like hmm really? The job would still be garbage, but at least if I'm being paid well I can have a better quality of life outside this horrible place, so maybe I won't be so irritated by the dumbass decisions management makes when I am working.

The uplift words aren't bad, just empty, since management often does not try to live up to them.

stupid business decisions is the absolute Truth.

We're probably the Last grocery store to get into the digital market.
But our in store pricing and software and stuff is So out dated.  We need a massive technology overhaul.

Taking the power of surveying items out of the store leader's teams (people who know best what sells the most in their store) and just pummeling everyone with distro after distro of what they would Like to see sell...  That's the dumbest decision they ever made.
Sure if they make a purchase of something on the cheap they should ship it to everyone they think can sell it.  But I'm in a store that is Drowning in candy and seasonal merchandise.   I don't think we Ever sell patio furniture until it hits 50% or more off after season.  But they sure do send in Tons of those huge heavy box sets.

We are a grocery store. We need to go back to the basics.
Have watermelons every day.
Have hot chickens all day long.
Dairy needs to be stocked All Day Long.
Baskets for customers Need to be available.
Nobody comes in looking for a temporary wireless phone or for furniture.  They'll grab it when its not profitable for us, so what then- we just wasted time, energy, and precious space holding the crap.

I think it's funny how they want us to express our self but restrict the clothing we can and can not wear. I think they were looking at the budget and deciding what worthless thing they could get rid of. Kroger had to supply the work shirts and I bet they saved them selves a bundle by not purchasing two work shirts for everyone company wide. A cost cutting measure colorfully placed in a lie to make us feel better about our selves. It's sort of like a meaningless title change just to improve employee moral.

That's what I need to do I feel it's pretty gay and I do not support that. I'll respect them to the diversity of the law but no further than that. God told me in many visions not to be gay and I now see why.

Literally has nothing to do with that but by all means don't miss an opportunity to wave the flag of intolerance and hate.

If anything, "Feed the Human Spirit" and "Living Our Promise" is something Jesus would be in favor of because in many ways, it's in line with the teachings of the Bible. Make the world a better place by giving back and supporting local communities and the individuals that make up those communities; as well as promote friendliness and caring, in addition to uplifting others and striving to be a better person.

These are all positive and altruistic values.

Whether or not Kroger is striving to achieve and uphold these values is an entirely separate conversation. The message itself and the values that it promotes offers a moral outlook on how life could and should be.

That's all well and good, but the issue is "living our promise" assumes we made a promise in the first place. Which I didn't, and I'm sure most if not all Kroger employees didn't.  So don't try and tell us we promised something when we didn't. I just find that type of company speak annoying in general. And "feeding the human spirit" seems overly ambitious for a grocery store.

I promised id quit and walk with evidence of food safety issues, now i show it to as many people as possible.  Anytime someone asked why i quit i say "my morals didnt align with the companies morals", if they ask what that means, or why, i proceed to show them text messages and pictures.  At my current position i get to spend a lot of time talking to people on a personal level.  It's become just part of my daily routine to explain why i left my last company after so many years.

Kroger doesnt need my help to sink the companies they run, but i like to think i make a small contribution as this happens about 6 minutes away from their corporate headquarters every. single. day.

This is normal.  Like a guy smiling in your face while his partner sneaks up behind you with a club.  All is smiley nice until the lights go out, and they don't do anything but smile until they are ready.

"Our Promise" is a great concept and something that everyone can live my. The issue is living the "Our Promise" lifestyle by all members of the Store/Division/Corporate latter. What "Our Promise" commitments are Corporate making to their customers? Corporate's customers are both internal and external as are the Divisions....... If the Corporate level associates have never lived the life of a stores associate, they have no clue how to serve the Store Associate or the Customer.   Corporate does have goals, but how does one know how to implement and obtain a goal if not knowing the complete process?

I never made any promise.

But, I never needed to.  As long as I generally show up, moderately sober, I can probably get near minimum wage for at least 12 hours a week.

If you ever expected anything else, well, you must be a differently abled courtesy clerk.  And there's nothing wrong with that.  We don't judge.

Uplift every Sprite ,Coke, and Pepsi, as they say.  But only every day ;  no more and no less.  Unofficially, I'd take less since I'm not sure about corn syrup and artificial sweeteners and I don't like the minimum purchase requirements unless they're being a dick.

I guess what I really want to know is what's with those paper patched lead solids?  What's that about?  Some homeless guy was rambling about a total lack of ballistic evidence before he pissed himself.  Totally wacky, right?

Come on man we don't need all that, we need another 5 made up top level positions.  Chief inclusion officer, Chief strategic opportunity officer, and so on.
