I got scheduled outside of my availability too. I used to complain to them about it but then they would interrogate me about it. So now I just come in at the time I'm avaliable and cross off what they wrote on the schedule. They get mad but I don't care. There's not much they can do about it.
Are you Part Time or Full Time? If you are part time, and your availability is correct in eschedule, then they should not be scheduling you outside of it without asking you. If you're Full Time. Tough luck, numb nuts, you are are there for the company 24/7 and all the hours they want, when they want, doing what they want, how they want.
When I was a courtesy, I had a set availability. They kept changing it and opening it up.i had to go online and switch it back and they kept reopening it. Finally I just worked my availability. I've got written up a few times and suspended. I went to the union and it got straightened out.
Kroger isn't good at scheduling people within their availability. One schedule restriction and hour hours tank. I'm surprised you're getting more than 20 hrs a week. You're pretty much on call 24/7 and to hell with your schedule requests if you even ask. You're pretty much a slave on call without any personal life. This has been a problem with kroger for several years. I went through this garbage. And they wonder why they can't keep anyone. Minimum wage, barely any hours even though it's a lie, scheduling people outside their availability. Managers also seem to use this tactic wrongfully if they're trying to get someone to quit because they decided some where they don't like you. This does unfortunately make a lot of hard workers leave. Just stick with it and you'll over come it or file a complaint with ethics board if you keep asking them to not schedule you outside your availably but they continue to. If you skip work you'll be written up for no show. Do this enough and you'll get fired. Best to find another job if you don't want to deal with this garbage. It will always be.

Apparently our new CSM has been doing that to everyone lately. Lots of people are complaining.

Well, they haven't changed my availability yet, but from the looks of it, who knows what might happen. We have a new CSM, none of this crap happened with our old CSM.
I've heard and read horror stories of Kroger messing around with stuff like this. Guess I've just been lucky the past couple years. It's been a good run, and that luck is running out.

Yep, in speaking to a few lifers recently, they told me exactly what you said. Also, lately, they've done this to everyone at the front end, not just me. Everyone is complaining. It's our new CSM, and from the looks of it, it doesn't seem like they'll stop this madness. When I asked the CSM about my schedule, they gave me some bull responses and that they'll get back to me. I doubt they'll get back to me, they're not going to change, or should I say correct, anything about my schedule. They've created new and strange shifts for everyone, and cut people's hours.
I was already planning on leaving Kroger later this year anyway. And this doesn't help their case for winning me over. In fact, I'll leave sooner.
Alright, so I went to the CSM again and requested they fix the schedule. They flat out said no.
You know, I would have been okay with this if I was approached about it and asked if I would mind working outside my availability for a few days because they're struggling with the hours. But to just flat out do this without asking. I didn't think this line would be crossed, but I guess that time has come.
Do other retail chains like to schedule people outside of their availability or is it just Kroger?
Yep. My cousin who works at Safeway said they're doing this to him as well. Switched his unavailability. Well, he just decided to work his availability and that's it. Let's see how long he lasts...
Your problem is that you asked. They scheduled me outside my availability last week. I just came in at my normal time and when the manager tried to give me crap for it, I told her I only work within my availability and that if she scheduled me outside of it I would either ignore it and work my normal hours or I would call off. You have to be very firm or they'll walk all over you.
Alright, a couple days ago, they came to me with an offer to work my normal shift for the days they scheduled me outside my availability this week. So I get my 40 hours this week, all within my availability, and next week too.
