The Very Best Kroger Department to work in is Location 52.  It's on the eastern end of the store, just south of aisle 7, except for stores north of the Mason-Dixon line, in which case it is located southwest of the north end of aisle 13.  But, you have to remember to implement Code 19 though, which takes a little effort for the newbies.  There is, I would say, a medium learning curve involved.  Good luck!

PS.  Warning:  when using the RF scanner, sometimes the server is down in location 52.   However,......no worries....... just walk to the Front End, stand by the U-Scan closest to Customer Service counter, then sign in.  The "wi-fi" is usually a bit stronger there.  If you need help, just ask the lifer in Drug GM

Depends on the area in which you live. I found in the greater Seattle area most grocery workers are not that well respected all around. We're pretty much treated sub par to the homeless and respected just as well.  Probably why there's high turn over just not a respected job. It's sad to think the mocking crowd doesn't realize I probably earn more than most of them. The job may suck but you just can't find a lot of jobs out there for $20/hr at max pay. With potential wage increases in three years I could be earning $27/hr.

Don't even bother with courtesy clerk. Helper clerk is the same. You're basically a janitor working in a grocery store all day being trampled and disrespected by society all day long. Your hard work is disrespected, undone and bit-ched at by your peers all day long. Never before had I worked a job/position where I was so heavily disrespected to the point of mental abusement.

Cashier is a bit better but you get to listen to customers whine and complain all day long. You get your mix of pleasant, your complainers, nasty complainers, nasty individuals all around, nasty angry, nasty grumpy, nasty nasty pissy, ect., wonderful regulars that will brighten your day and so on. Getting to Journeyman pay is a pain as it takes like 4-7 years at a full 40 and that's if they don't fluff your hours or play with them.

Deli is okay. It's like working in course quarters all day long. You either love your team or hate it. One bad spark will make your life here hell. Customers can be pleasant, nasty or arrogant nasty needy. Just depends upon your location.

Seafood/meat is good if you don't mind weight bearing activities all day long. Customers can vary in friendliness.

Replenishment clerk isn't bad. You basically stock shelves all day long with customer service interaction. You're on the grocery pay scale so you can eventually work towards journeyman pay.

Dairy isn't bad. It's weight bearing activities with lifting up to 100lbs frequently. Due to the milk. If you're body can handle it it's not bad. You still do some customer service but not as much in the front end.

Front end is okay. I'm tired of listening to people complain all day long about this and that then dragging you into their arguments and constantly judging you with slander half the time.  Again it depends on the store. It can either be a positive experience or a negative depending upon your crew. That was my last location. I find I work better with men because they like to work. Women are either nice and chummy friends with each other or they bit-ch all day long at each other.

Night crew isn't bad. If you work at a store where you have to cashier it's a bit different. Just means you can't get lost in work. I found people who have poor customer service skills tend to end up on night crew. I love night crew in stores that close so you need not worry about any drama. The only drama is the drama you create between you and your coworkers or vis versa.
