Lucky me

I am a checker and today, before I even clocked in at work, I found an envelope in the parking lot. I checked inside and I kid you not, it had $300.00 cash. I checked around and no one seemed to have lost it. It had no ID or anything else. So therefore, I figure I have $300.00 extra cash in addition to my weekly paycheck. Plus I have my vacation check waiting for me when I come back to work. I don't think I'll ever be this lucky again. Once in a lifetime opportunity aNd I took it.

Better hope there's no security cameras you may or may not be aware of to track you doing that. If I lost $300. and had a real good idea where to check? You best BET I'd be speaking with management to have them review their DVR system. ................... Other wise, good for you! biggrin

Two things: 1. Your vacation check, regular paycheck, and the $300.00 will not last long when you get "fired.". EVEN on the cheapest of meals.

                      2. You will NOT be able to get unemployment when Kroger SUSPENDS you INDEFINATELY.

Your best bet was or is, depending on if you have the cash still is turn it In.

They say "No good deed goes unpunished. Meaning DEAL WITH IT if you do not get ANY kind of reward other than a Thank you. And that should be more than good enough for you.

Also, don't EVER think someone isnt watching. Someone is ALWAYS watching at retail places like that to make sure of employee integrity and honesty.

A retailer I once worked for had a creepy game they'd play: they would deliberately leave cash laying around places within sight of a camera----then watch and bust any employee they'd find walking off with it. Pretty stupid, really, as it could have just as easily been a customer. But they got a number of employees over it, so I guess they thought it was worth it.

At what point did they confront the employee in question?  Was it as soon as they picked the money up or did they wait until they tried to walk out the door with it?  Just because someone picked up the money doesn't mean they plan to keep it for themselves.

what was his other option?  Take it to customer service?  Yeah that way, when nobody claims it, some other punk up there gets to pocket it (or they give it to kroger).  Finders keepers.  I would however let it "turn up" if I overheard someone talking about it.

Why are you telling us you fell for it?  May not have been a trap but man it is Kroger!  The cops are in their pocket and they thrive on blackmail.  You could find yourself a manager doing real crimes with no way back.
