Unpleasant coworker

How do you work with a coworkers how's a bit of an @$$ hole and is very particular who he likes, who he doesn't, and how he operates. I've pretty much even trying after 4 months as it's like talking to a brick wall that refuses to talk to select individuals. He's very disrespectful towards his coworkers unless you're male or black. He lacks respect for authority and if a white women boss comes in he all of sudden becomes even more "challenging" to work with because he doesn't like listening to authority even if it's a simple please call a back up cashier. He's obviously prejudice and racist.

He's very quick to judge and once it's in his mind that's it. The female coworkers don't like him because of how disrespectful and rude he is towards them. I think he's racist as he tends to zip his mouth shut and hell if you can get him to talk or socialize to white women coworkers. If you're Caucasian and there's a forgive me black courtesy clerk on duty he'll rudely send away all the other courtesy clerks and keep screaming where's so and so and why are they not coming. Not the first time he's done this. I try to assist him but hell if I can tell if I'm over assisting him. It's like working with a drunk where you don't know what will set him off.  He only does this to the women if you're a guy you're fine. He doesn't like working in close quarters. He gets rather nasty and rude and he gets really unpleasant if a shopping cart gets in his way. If it's not in his way he makes sure it's in his way and shoves it rudely across the room even if you're still cashiering the damn order and it never even left you're check stand area. But hell he'll take a shopping cart and block the whole damn area when he's trying to cashier.  The other night he refused to assist small orders at the check stand. He'd grab their items force the customer to follow him even if they didn't want it. He'd childishly rudely scan the items madly then run off.  Not all the customers want self check. He doesn't understand this. He'd run off grab the next then process the order through self check in a mad manner. He'd leave me to finish the mess he started and with an unpleasant customer that didn't want to come through self check. Good god where does his @$$ holiness end? If customers keep complaining I might file an ethics board complaint against him as this company expect specific customer service expectations and I'd say his customer service varies depending upon the race of the customer. Forgive me but it's damn true.

Since he started working at this location he's been suspended due to the way he's talked down on people several times. One was almost a two month suspension because he was quite the @$$ hole towards a customer and the customer wanted revenge.  Again forgive me but it was a prejudice situation. Where he commanded the customer to do something customer didn't listen and cashier just accelerated it from there with is down talking. Forgive me he's really positive to the blacks but if you're Caucasian he's an @$$ hole rude and nasty. Don't believe me I could give you several examples. Generally I'm pretty friendly towards ALL but this guy is really trying to work with. His customer service leaves customers feeling bitter and off when he's done assisting them. I understand not wanting to deal with customers disrespecting you but good god if a customer starts price arguing he calls the damn manager and refuses service even if they're being professional about it. Or even if they want simple small talk. He has a very specific way he cashiers and if it doesn't fall within that equation he begins to throw a very unprofessional tantrum tantrum. Management knows but hell if they'll do any thing.

oh man i know what you mean.... every where i ever worked black people never do more than the min. i not racist this coming from experience. ex. night stock indianapolis kroger black man named derek anderson been with the company almost 20 years shift from 9-5am he gets the min done stops at 4am. others are working till 6am sometimes. he leaves his aisles half assed sits gets the free hour till 5 ,30 minute breaks, breaks the toliet every week, leaves a mess behind, clutter carts and pallets, if items falls kicks it under etc. thats only him check out the ones you work with. have u seen any head stocks that are black. how many dept heads. kroger wont fire because of waffle house type laws. im not afraid to say it. i rather have mexicans working with me that cant speak english than a black man with 20 years exp. theres more but thats enough

 I've dealt with jerks of all types over the years. This is what I've learned. They won't change at all. Some of them quit or get fired and then become someone else's problem. The others, God help us, somehow manage to stay here. One thing I've learned is to use some of their tactics against them.

 

If he doesn't want to work with or socialize with any of the other co-workers that aren't part of his circle, then he can find out that they can treat him the same way.

 

If he won't follow orders, step in and tell whoever gave the order that you will do it right in front of him. 

 

The same goes for customers that don't want to use u-scan. Bring them to your lane. 

 

As for the cc's. One should be outside on carts, one should be cleaning bathrooms, and the rest should be bagging, helping customers, etc. If he sends the rest of them away for no reason then yells about it, it's his problem to begin with. 

 

When he shoves a cart out of his way, whether it was or not, across the way. No matter if he sends it flying or just real easy, he is creating a safety hazard. 

 

If you're going to file a report on him, write down the immature way he is acting on the job overall. Keep writing them. Get your disgruntled co-workers to do the same. Pretty soon management will get tired of them piling up and will deal with him.

A two week later update. He was pissed the next day after management had a talk to him from the numerous customer complaints. He got more complaints than normal the next day. Two days later he straightened up and started to fly right. Just because you're sick of the whole system doesn't mean you can take it out on everyone else.
