Kroger continues to cut in store hours year after year as an easy, lazy way to cut costs. Kroger achieved over one billion dollars in cost savings last year. The Kroger CEO, just last week, released a statement that Kroger's cost cutting is not going too far and that in fact, average hours in store are higher than last year. Anyone working for the company knows that's a very deceitful lie, apparently concocted in an effort to convince shareholders that all is well. I recommend to anyone truly interested in knowing what's going on with this company to simply Google search "Kroger news" every few days. You'll be shocked and amazed by what you'll discover.

im full time i dont have to worry about that. part time peasants
The stores overall are not losing money, they are just not increasing their profitability. Right now all decisions are being implemented to change the business model and address Wall Streets expectations/concerns. In reality all Upper Management only answers to Wall Street Investors. The biggest expense in a store is labor, increasing sales, decreasing labor is the only way to increase profit.....DO MORE WITH LESS...
I'm not going to be like for this statement...... all BONUSES are actually standard in all business. Yes, it sucks high ups get some BIG $$$, but its a standard practice to compensate salary positions like this. There are many areas to save money, in reality DIP was only introduced to make marketing easier for the 10 different clothing "Store Labels" that were previously in FM and Marketplace stores. In reality a lot of $$ could be saves eliminating some of the differing promotions the stores run. No one cared about "Taste of Span", so no one is going to care about "Treasure Emporiyum", its just a marketing stunt for Wall Street to say the company is being innovative. Why does it seem larger stores get new bakery/produce/deli cases every few years? If its not broken, why is it being replaced? Hasn't the company heard about repairing, painting or refinishing stuff. How many signs does the store hang each week? Does anything really care about the price of bananas? Price them as a good value and leave them alone! Why is POP/Soda going on sale/off sale every other week?

Average hours is stores are higher because they are being boosted by Scan, Bag and Go and Click-list. The actual departments hours are being cut left and right. At my store (Also a million dollar store), i see maybe 3 people a week use Scan. Bag, and Go. And Click-list sales are does 70% versus forecast every week. Which means they are getting way to many hours for the sales they are doing, while the rest of the store struggles with no help.
I figure cutting hours is so that upper management can get their bonuses that WE work for. As once told to us by corporate when they did a staff meeting, "We are cutting hours to keep costs down. You're going to have to work with it (deal or resign). The cutting hours is temporary and will resolve itself by next month.--one year later: hours are being cut more than ever. It makes us want to only do the bare basic minimum.
Kroger can save millions by not ordering all the stupid seasonal GM that they order,
Kroger had a clothing line called Dip. You can't make this up. They had one of thier drug addicted mangers come up with this line. He did a whole bunch of drugs one weekend and woke up and still had a dip in his mouth so he said f it I'll call it dip.

You dolt if you go to sleet with a dip in your mouth your going to swallow it and then be very very sick and puke everywhere. This particular troll cannot even spell.
Typically July seems to be a month where hours get cut from departments.
You are right. Every year just before end of fiscal year and again in July during the holiday lull hours always get cut.
It's because the high school kids - no offense to any of those - and others whom normally can not work during the "regular" year, end up taking Kroger as a summer job for cash. So they bring in more courtesy clerks, and then that means that they have to (re)distribute the hours for everyone.
Trouble is, one can not make a living wage - or barely any wage - at $7.25 an hour for sixteen hours a week.

One of the first things I noticed when I started working there. They "think" they are somehow saving money by not hiring another person to do the work. "Oh, look, we saved a few hundred here by not scheduling another employee!" Yeah, might look good on that one, certain paper they are staring at. Meanwhile, i'm staring at the thousands of dollars worth of product sitting in the back room and coolers that's not on the shelves. How myopic. Yet, typical.
I guess their greed does have a limit after all, since they could be raking in even more money by hiring more employees. If this dumb plan of theirs was so smart, why not just fire everyone, pay zero employees, and be even richer! Yeah, that's brilliant!
