I was just at my local Target and there was a nice young lady, checking receipts of everyone at the self checkout as they were leaving. Hmmm, what an interesting idea. I wonder why Kroger doesn't do that...
Is the labor cost worth it at a grocery store though? You're talking lower average theft values (steak vs. electronics), plus it's not like we can apprehend shoplifters anyway, to my understanding customers don't even have to oblige to a receipt check unless they've signed a contract agreeing to it (e.g. at Costco).
Target has multiple LP at every store, world class cameras, and a federal grade crime lab.
Kroger has one LP per several dozen stores, solely dedicated to harassing employees. That's it.
We make no effort at all to stop or apprehend shoplifters. None. We aren't even allowed to ask for receipts.
I am convinced that my store loses money every single day after 11:00 pm and often after 10:00 from addicts and homeless coming in and helping themselves.
They are rolling in coolers and rolling luggage. That's how retarded things are getting.

All fake news about target. a very east place to steal from about as easy as walmart
Not really. I've seen Walmart security take down a combative shoplifter. That's exactly what we need. Once shoplifters reize that security don't play, and they get taken down forcefully if necessary, they may rethink their chosen "career"

We recently had an incident like that. It was around 3pm, we had about 2 or 3 guards, and some LP in the back. It's not typical for us to have that many LP. They caught a shoplifter and he tried to run. They got him in the hallway by the front doors. They tackled him to the ground. There was blood. Police came immediately and an ambulance.
Let's just say plenty of customers witnessed this idiot being taken down.
