That's not a personal insult, it's a statistical fact. Women fit into this too, but mostly, any man you see (or are biggrin) fitting that demographic, you are either: retarded, mentally ill, an alcohoholic and/or a drug addict. Put it this way: in any metro area big enough to justify Kroger putting a store, there are other, better paying and career longevity enhancing jobs as well. But these afore mentioned people choose not to persue them, because retail is easy, requires no mental skills, and allows for a chemically toxic 'lifestyle'.

Think about this. Mext time you see the upper thirty-ish looking guy with the name tag 'Jim' stocking the canned peas, think about this post. Then look a little closer at Jim. He's pretty undernourished, wearing his greasy hair in a way out of style for his age pony tail, wearing semi dirty clothes....and if, God forbid, you need any assistance with something, Jim is not your go-to guy. He'll practically snarl at you some barely articulate words, and then continue to ignore you completely. And if you get close enough you'll likely smell some pungent alcohol coming off his breath.

But then......I'm posting this on a forum for stores where most of you ARE JIm. yawn

I'm in college right now so this definitely isn't me, but it sure describes a lot of my co workers, LOL!! Good call!

Except that Kroger made up some reason to fire Jim 10 years ago. They were making too much money and replaced them with a 17yr old fresh out of high school.

Are you saying that the stats point to any individual or all employees as a whole? Because not all of us live a "toxic lifestyle". There's a lot of employees at the store I work at that don't even drink or use recreational drugs. Neither do I and I tend to avoid those that do constantly. And there is probably somebody with a college degree and a big job who does the "toxic lifestyle".

Now for the snappy attitude. Maybe this person was yelled at/demanded on/told off, etc. Take your pick. I would just move on to the next employee until I got the help I needed. Eventually the other person will cool off.

The semi-dirty uniform. Some cleanups can be messy to where we get covered in the stuff by accident. We can be careful but there's the unknown factor.

The hair. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Skills. A lot of us have skills that we use in other areas outside of work. Some of us have side jobs. Some of us volunteer for our local community.

Smarts. Not everyone needs to have a college degree to have smarts. I'm not saying anything against those who are going or plan to. Seriously, do it to it if you want. What I'm getting at is there are others who like to read instead staring at the television. And if it's useful then we apply it.

Not everyone should be judged just because of what one person or in your case, some people in one area, did.

Oh, and one more thing. Not all of us are named Jim or any variation. I've yet to know any lady by that name. smile

That's a little bit harsh, but it's more right than wrong.  If you are making minimum wage (or close to it) past drinking age, something is wrong.

I went to school, then lost interest in making a career out of my chosen field. I then made the mistake of staying at Kroger long enough to top out my pay. What can I say, it wasn't such a bad job five or six years ago and has only gotten terrible for someone in my position these last few. Until I go back to school, it's hard to walk away from $20/hr, 401k matching, 3 weeks of vacation, health insurance, etc. No other job that doesn't require specialty education is going to start me off anywhere near that for the job switch to make any practical sense.

Think about this. Mext time you see the upper thirty-ish looking guy with the name tag 'Jim' stocking the canned peas, think about this post. Then look a little closer at Jim. I'm not unapproachable, and unless they catch me at a time when I'm pissed off and cussing silently to myself because I've found that one of those customers has stashed an empty container that they've stolen from in the back of my freezer shelf, or put some food product there that now has to be scanned out as damaged (except when I just put said product back on the shelf to thaw out for them to eat out of spite)... normally I don't mind helping people out finding something or answering a question. I'm normally very patient. "How are you today?" "Doing well, just don't be the person that's stupid enough to change that."

Hey, look, a thinking person:

Are you saying that the stats point to any individual or all employees as a whole? Because not all of us live a "toxic lifestyle". There's a lot of employees at the store I work at that don't even drink or use recreational drugs. Neither do I and I tend to avoid those that do constantly. And there is probably somebody with a college degree and a big job who does the "toxic lifestyle".

I've never been drunk in my life, and have never been interested in any other drug. If someone's into that, have at it, it's just not for me.

I make my work clothes last longer than I should because of this. They get roughed up at work, and I don't care about looking perfectly crisp at a job I hate, so I don't care to spend the money on new stuff frequently. Personally, I think it's bs that we should have to foot the bill for a work uniform.

The hair. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

My hair doesn't look bad, and is kept clean, but it's definitely not stylish. I laugh inside at guys that spend a lot of money on the latest hair cuts, because I feel that on the whole, modern men are slowly becoming women with how much effort they put into their looks. It's pathetic to see a man checking his reflection when he's out to make sure his hair is set just-so. Maybe the more sensitive idiots that love to feel offended will find that sexist, but I don't care.

Skills. A lot of us have skills that we use in other areas outside of work. Some of us have side jobs. Some of us volunteer for our local community.

My off-time is worth far more to me than my job. I actually went to school for automotive because I love being around cars and making mine more fun to drive. I just don't care to fix other peoples' problems for a living. I'm looking to go back soon for a career I'll hopefully enjoy, though. It takes time to save up, though; this job pays only just enough to live off of when you're single and paying rent on your own place.

Smarts. Not everyone needs to have a college degree to have smarts. I'm not saying anything against those who are going or plan to. Seriously, do it to it if you want. What I'm getting at is there are others who like to read instead staring at the television. And if it's useful then we apply it.

I do actually read a lot. That's all I do on my breaks.

Not everyone should be judged just because of what one person or in your case, some people in one area, did.

So you consider someone disable a looser? By disabled I mean can work part time but not full time because of health problems. I think you are the one who is a looser you putting judgement. That is not true for everyone being a looser.

So I guess I am just retarded. I hate that word it is like a raciest insult and should not be allowed. You should be locked up in a cage and fed with a stick.

The Kroger family of stores has trouble hiring amazing people for a variety of reasons.  Wages, working conditions, abusive proprietary policies, low ethical standards, and so on.  Great people wouldn't put up with it and stay away.  The individual stories of the employees are like those of homeless people.  If you knew you might be surprised, on average!

Kroger CAUSED me mental issues lmao what do you think of that

Also the real losers are those that make fun of those that have mental issues, substance abuse issues and need help. These are human beings, so maybe help them.

Yeah, but most people would rather judge and ridicule and insult just to make themselves feel important. Shameful actually.
