It's one of the better paying places for grocery stocking.
I appreciate how lax this store is. People never seem to get in trouble at all. This one dude is late to work every night about 20-25 mins. taking 5 mins more on your break, Some people dont call or show at times. The lead is a absolute moron and is slow as hell. This is all over night.

We're a couple dollars an hour short of a couple other stores in my area. Our local union was one step from going on strike because Kroger was trying hard to resist more than a 35 cent raise, while minimum wage has gone up by multiple whole dollars since the last 35 cents. We ended up with 50 cents. It pays the bills - barely, with how quickly rent goes up here - but it stings a bit knowing people at other companies are doing much better for the same work. I'd jump ship, but it would take too much time to work back up to where I'm at now.
Anything good to say about Kroger? One. As corny as it probably sounds, I've met some awesome people that I actually worked with. Floor level. Managers, for the most part, can eat a dick.

Oh yeah, our store is like that too. Lots of people routinely come in late, past the grace period. Some people NCNS all the time and yet, are still here. Our store is very forgiving in that area.
Kroger hires at 16. If you're 16 and can walk there, it's a good first job since almost no places hire at 16. Seeing how awful retail is and watching your coworkers struggle in life can be good motivation to achieve higher education.
The health insurance is really cheap... if the store gives you enough hours to qualify for it. With the way hours are currently being slashed, that's a real problem.
Overworked management and the threat of union involvement makes it almost impossible to get fired. In practice, this really only makes it difficult to get rid of dead weight.
I'll fully agree with the corny statement and say that i've made some good friends through this job over the years. I've made lots of memories with people and made a best friend who helped me through one of the hardest moments in my life.
