In the Savannah Georgia area about 50 or 60 miles from Savannah they were going to build a new Kroger. They purchased the land a few years ago maybe 5 years ago. Found out that the land was contaminated not sure with what. It turns out Kroger sold the land and now this town is getting a Publix. I do not know if it is the same spot that was contaminated or not. But if the problem was fixed why couldn't Kroger still build? This particular town I heard is a non union town meaning the people in the town will not support a union store. I heard this town had a Kroger years ago and Kroger pulled out because of the Union not being supported.
Kroger buys land all over with the intent to build stores. The divisions are only given so much money for remodels/new stores and that is cut back every year so the bottom line looks better
