I think we are pretty close to a strike in the Local 1996 (Atlanta GA) area-we don't get a new contract for about 1 1/2 years but our Admin thinks we are headed in that direction. Has any Kroger division recently struck and what was the end result?
The delta divisions contract talks arent going well either. I have worked for Kroger for almost 9 years and I cant wait to start my new job in January.
Union contracts haven't helped over the years. It hasn't changed Kroger working conditions getting worse and worse each year. I fantasize about workers and managers not showing up to work on the same day or for a week. Only way to show corporate that people are sick and tired of broken equipment, leaking roofs, not enough hours, corporate visits that make everyone feel like crap, etc. Also think about how nice it would be for a major news organization to do a undercover story about what it is really like and how people are treated by corporate vs the corporate spiel about how wonderful Kroger is doing. Oh well, a girl can dream.

I've wondered if we might interest local "watchdog"-type TV reporters in coming in and filming the "snakes", umbrellas, planter buckets, floor mats, and water puddles taking up most of the width of multiple aisles. This would be better than OSHA.

Maybe if it happened in multiple states and a whole lot of people in multiple areas started suggesting news organizations look into conditions. The unions aren't going to change it and Kroger isn't going to change except for the worse. Corporations don't like bad press (especially a lot of it) and news agencies love stories like this. Would be nice to see corporate in the hot seat.
I Dare EVERY reader of this particular thread to copy and paste (the URL of this thread) into an email and send the link to one (or some) local TV news stations, specifically the news/ and watchdog type news people, or even to some national networks.
Most of them are actually scared to broadcast these kinds of stories about companies who also buy time for TV ads on their stations, so I don't have high hopes that this will do much good. BUT, it is an idea. Anybody game? Come on, try it!
Talked to a manager in my store and asked why the leaking roof stuff hasn't been taken care of. Said it has been put on the hub over and over but nothing. Said a lot of Kroger's are leased and the roof isn't a Kroger thing but a landlord thing. So, I said okay it is a landlord thing and won't cost Kroger anything. Why hasn't it been taken care of? Manager said I have no idea. The only thing I can think is that because the space is leased Kroger's doesn't want to make a big deal out of it so their rent doesn't go up. Honestly, besides the fact that Kroger's doesn't care about it's employees or customers, I think it is so that if something happens Kroger can say not our problem it is the person we lease it from who is responsible. I call bull****.
You know what, I'm in. Tired of being a sheep just going along, hating how things are going downhill. I'll figure out my wording, figure out how many newspapers and local news agencies are in my area and send it out. Might not do a thing, but at least I tried.
It's often easier to find a different job than to even get ahold of the union. And if you do ever get ahold of them, all they will do is tell you to **** off, quit, or some combination thereof.
Our store is losing our best workers left and right because it's better and easier to just leave rather than to try to fix anything.
Considering I just left in May Becuase there was a Freon leak pouring down into the Deli where I was forced to stay right where it was leaking it at because of the stupid cook schedule in there where you dont even get a break...
The Alarms for the leak were going off all over the store that clearly say evacuate the store and no one was evacuated No customers no employees....I ended up sick as a dog for 3 days because of it as soon as I felt better I found a better job and was gone by the end of the month.

Maybe wait for a solid rain forecast, then tell the local watchdog reporter about an easy story: wealthy corporation--a food seller--is negligent with the most fundamental details. Come photograph our planter buckets amid the puddles across the aisles.

Youre not gonna do anything. Youll still stay there making little money to barely support yourself. The best thing to do is look elsewhere for employment but youre to lazy and have no other skills to do that.

employees sleeping cause their next shift doesn't have a 8 hour window and its easier to sleep in the back than go home for 2 hours.

I mean i could keep going. I documented all this before i quit and even have a few conversations from store managers and division managers recorded/saved from text, telling me to sell contaminated product and threatened if i dont. they followed through on the threats and i soon quit.
This is right outside of GO and at all the stores GO likes to cycle through for visits, so god only knows what the hell is going down the farther you get.
Store manager who is a yes man and scared of anyone with a molecule of power more than him, had employees dig through rat infested product and grab "undamaged" product for sale.
You know who you are. They did it remodel and he forgot about a entire truck full of ****. Rats got it, then employees were told to "salvage" the good product.
Do an anonymous claim with OSHA, thats the only way stuff like that gets fixed. Back when I was still stuck in Kroger o made a claim with OSHA about all of our hand jacks being pieces of @$&# and we got brand new ones within a week.
