The person I was bagging for had a woman (black) that had *6 kids*-and she was pregnant with a 7th. She paid with WIC vouchers. I SO wanted to tell her "Lady you can't feed the kids you have now, and you are pregnant with another one?!?" This as a tax payer makes me SO mad. I am in the Local 1996 area (Atlanta GA) and we have the Georgia WIC (Women Infants Children) voucher program. Not sure what it is called in other states. Some of the cashiers tell us there are people who know how "to work the system" so they get more welfare money. I noticed that she did NOT have a Georgia EBT card.
I agree. What business is it of yours to tell her how she can raise her family? And if she wants to have another child that's her business NOT yours.and just because someone is on WIC does NOT mean they have to have an EBT card is their possession. Just keep your nose in your own business and worry about yourself.

The problem is under the current system a person can make more money living off the government than they can at a actual job because if you work too much and make over a certain amount of money, you lose government assistance. The problem is that cutoff point is set too low.
I agree the system needs an overhaul. A normal married couple should have no restrictions on the help they receive due to their family size. However, when a woman has 4 kids or more and each one has a different father, then there should be restrictions. After two kids, you receive no additional financial help.
Sterilization should be required in order to receive any government assistance. You've already proven your irresponsibility once by bringing a child into this world that you cannot or will not support financially so, sterilization prevents you from making the same mistake twice. Prove I'm wrong.
I hate WIC and if I see someone with WIC i will not bag. And how does the OP's topic have anything to do with race? Just because a statement was made does not make the OP raciest. That is the problem with people today. If you fart wrong you are raciest. Another thing on WIC the reason I hate it is because you scan one item customer signs. Scan 2 or 3 customer signs. It is 2019 why can't the computer sort this all out automatic? Why can't there be one separate line for WIC? OH NO! I am sorry now I am a raciest.
I have seen it take over 20 minutes to ring up a WIC order. This is why there needs to be a way the computer sorts it out. I have other things to do. I am Utility and do not bag much because other things have to be done.

When I was a cashier over 20 years ago, each WIC order was on a separate card and each one had to rung up as a separate order. I remember having to check the dates on the card. There was an expiration date but there was also a not valid before a certain date date. They also had to get EXACTLY what was written on the card, no substitutions. You had to especially careful with milk and cheeses. It had to be real cheese. That meant no Kraft singles or Velveeta and it couldn't be shredded for some reason. I forgot how we tendered the order out. The only tender keys on the register were cash, check, and charge, and I know we didn't use charge. I want to say we tendered it out as a check but I'm not 100% sure.

That's still basically the same. So I guess it's just the customers buying the wrong thing. You would think they could read. Some lie and say I got this before the store down the road allows me to get this I say well go down the road then stop holding the lines up.
I remember 13 years ago, my first job as a cashier in a different grocery chain, in another state. The way they did WIC back then, it was this big check-type paper that the customer gave you, and it listed the WIC items they're allowed to get. Then I think when you were done ringing the items up, you would feed the paper into the printer and it would read the numbers on the paper like a check. At least that's what I remember. It's been so long!
Imagine my surprise when I started working with Kroger a couple years ago, that WIC is now all digital, all automatic. And it's on a card with a chip, not a piece of paper. My, my, how times have changed.
You're a racist piece of **** and you really should mind your own ****ing business and just do your god damned job.
Actually hes not. Its typical for blacks to have 12 kids and live off welfare. It's always great seeing these people and human resources driving SUV's with 40 inch rims.... If you can't support your own kids yourself then you shouldn't have 6 to 8 kids. Thats just ridiculous!!

More then likely they are on EBT with 6 kids.. It is our buisness when my tax dollars pay for lazy pieces of **** whod rather collect assistance then get out and support their kids. But no lets keep poppin them out so they get more money a month. Seriously if they cant support their kids THEN DONT HAVE ANY TILL YOU CAN!

Couldnt agree more. Its not fair to the child/children what so ever. Their having all these kids just to get free food and money.

We just recently started using the card now. Supposedly it's supposed to force WIC Users to get the EXACT items they are approved for. That way they cannot say "oh, I always get xxx in lieu of xxx. Checker xxx ALWAYS lets me." But that dont mean they wont try. But if the card locks itself up and wont let the transaction go through then they have no choice to get the correct items.
In my state, we actually had paper checks with the specific WIC items printed on it until a year or two ago. It was a huge check, so the customer usually carried it in a flap in the book explaining the qualified WIC items.
The customer would at least have the list on the check, but there wasn't any verification beyond an item was potentially a WIC item or not. Checks would run through for every single potential WIC item and it was up to the cashier to verify the items were correct. That caused a lot of problems with entitled customers being pissy. A lot of broke bitches get shwifty with rage when you tell them the check only covers skim or 1% rather than whole milk. It's downright amazing.
Now that we've switched over to the card system, most WIC customers have absolutely no idea what WIC grocery items they have. The big difference is now the items are rigorously enforced and there is no override. It's possible to print out a list for them, or it will be printed on a receipt in progress and final receipt when they check out, but that's about it.
Consequently, now most WIC grocery customers are baffled by it. "Maybe it will cover whatever milk or bread or eggs I got, or EBT will cover it. If only there was some way to know... Oh well, it's not my money!" They end up running it first, and maybe it covers something or not before they run EBT.
A WIC-only order is guaranteed to be a 20 minute nightmare. The cashier is probably going to have to track down the single (outdated) WIC book on the front end, show it to the customer, help them sound out the words, read it to them, explain which items weren't the right items and why, go fetch or swap for the correct items (no package help), figure out exactly which weight of which produce items weren't covered, and then call and wait for a manager to repeat all of that to the customer. After all that, there's a 50% chance the customer will decide they shouldn't have to know which items are covered by their meal ticket and just walk out the door (sometimes just stealing the WIC items outright).
Another huge issue is that now customers have to know the pin for the card. I always wondered if there's really that much fraud, or if it's just idiots and Idiocracy becoming reality.
Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me hate the person Kroger is making me.
Of course eugenics is bad, blah blah blah, but seeing these families come through makes me wonder if maybe WIC should come with condoms, Plan B, or Depo Provera or something.
But then off course all the entitlement spending doesn't even come close to corporate welfare and the military industrial (congressional) complex.
I just hate everyone and everything, I guess. Time for another drink.
Ah vouchers... that's what they're called. I forgot that. Didn't know other states still used them. I wonder if the state where I worked at still uses them.
How does one know what items they can buy if they have a WIC card? Well, first our registers and self checkouts will print out a receipt after they've inserted their card, this receipt shows what items and quantity of those items they could have gotten before this transaction (they call this a WIC "balance"), and it also shows what items they're getting that were approved as per their balance. A few seconds later as their WIC accounts are updated, the transaction is complete and the final receipt is printed (assuming every item was approved for WIC). If not, then they pay cash/debit/EBT/whatever for the other stuff that isn't on WIC to finish their order. The final receipt also includes their current WIC balance, post transaction, for their convenience.
If a person wants to know their WIC "balance" on their card without buying anything, they can go up to any register and ask the cashier to print one out for them. It prints out a little receipt showing their balance.
WIC items are hardcoded into the system. There is no way for a cashier or manager to override a non-WIC item and make WIC pay for it.
The person I was bagging for had a woman (black) that had *6 kids*-and she was pregnant with a 7th. She paid with WIC vouchers. Take care of bigger problems first.
Your ceo makes enough money to pay all those kids lives 100 times over.
I'll take a million wic vouchers over one welfare corporation. The woman taking 250$ out of your taxes isn't the problem, it's the 250million taken for corporwte tax cuts and subsidies.

So sick of white folks shooting up buildings and ****ing kids.
It's always great seeing white folks get caught raping kids and shooting up schools. If you can't support your own mental health yourself, then you shouldn't be allowed to be around kids and own guns. That's just ridiculous!!!

Arnt baseless generic stereotypes fun!
Its also always great seeing blacks killing each other over the dumbest things. Or blacks using little kids to move and sell drugs or do drive by shootings or riots like the one in LA many years ago. No reason to act like wild kingdom animals instead of solving issues in a civil manner they have to blow things up set fire to buildings beat innocent people up. Thats even more ridiculous!!! But youre also correct on everything you posted above

Man the that went right over your head. You belong at Kroger.

The majority of people commenting on this thread sound like morons. WIC was only kind of a hassle for cashiers when they used vouchers. Now that it's a card in my state, it's not a hassle at all. Also WIC and food stamps are completely different with different income guidelines. Somebody (pregnant or with small children) who has food stamps probably does have WIC. Many people who have WIC though do not receive food stamps. With food stamps your income has to be below poverty levels, with WIC it doesn't. WIC is more about having healthy women and children. There are many aspects to WIC other than the $40 or so a month that they give you for specific foods and milk. I'd guarentee that every Kroger employee would qualify for WIC if they were pregnant or had small children lol
