The company reps say they have made a final offer. Soon the union will tell us once again that the company is right and no one wants a strike so without reading the proposed contract let the drama end with the contract adopted. Then the company will go on a rampage and I don't advise anyone, no matter how desperate, to apply.
During the strike it should be ok to shop at Albertsons, Vons and Pavillions. They should have their own contract. You have many choices for where to shop, so thank you.
A strike lasting even one week would give us a great opportunity to put the word out regarding concerns that the company and union will not discuss, and that the company deny us the right to discuss.
In 2003 in Indianapolis, we voted to stoke and the local 700 didnt back us on it. They eventually settled and accepted the contract despite withspread disapproval. Several months earlier, they started deductions from our paychecks for a strike fund. We did not get that money back either. It was sent out to California when the Ralphs/ Krogers went on strike.
In the early 1980s Kroger did go on strike in Indianapolis for several week. I believe we had to appeal to the International Union to back us on the strike because our local union didnt authorize for us to strike.
In continuation of the Indianapolis Kroger strike back in the early 1980s, it was a big deal. There were I believe 2 other grocery stores (no longer in busines) that were also union and they also walked off the job as well. Of course there were scabs but it sure made grocery shopping Hard. This however was a different time when the public supportEd unions more. Indiana is no right to work state as well.
