You risk being marked in the system as "do not rehire". Basically if you ever submit an application in the future to Kroger, when someones goes to review it, a flag will pop up indicating the current store manager at the time felt you shouldn't be considered for employment again at any Kroger store.

It doesn't mean you CAN'T be rehired, but it's harder if you have the flag attached to your name in the system.

Weren't you ever taught about integrity and keeping your word?  If you give two weeks notice, then you work those two weeks.  Otherwise, just tell them you're quitting now.

yeah, but this is kroger, and i've heard stories of people who the store manager hated them so much that as soon as they put in their two weeks, they were immediately taken off the schedule and put on the do not rehire list.

You aren't morally obligated to honor the two weeks notice during the two weeks notice if it becomes apparent the people you work for and with are unleashing their fury for the sport of it, or you get your hours reduced, etc.

As a matter of fact, if prior employees got bullied during their two weeks notice, you aren't morally obligated to give notice when you quit.  Just stop going to work.

Reputation counts.  You aren't morally obligated to cooperate with evil.

I guess the bigger question should be, why do you want to work at Kroger after the way others have been treated?  Why would it be a big deal to be on the 'do not rehire' list?  You'd be happier competing against them in the marketplace.

"Treat your employees exactly how you want your employees to treat the customer."
