I am in the Local 1996 area and we are seeing an increase in  customers using "Shipt" instead of Instacart for their delivery purchases. Only one problem-with Shipt you are automatically made "tax free" - even if the purchases are for your own personal use. People are using it to avoid paying the sales tax-isn't that considered illegal?

I think if it were illegal, Shipt would have forced to shut down. So I'm guessing its ok...

I've used Shipt.  It's not tax free

Every Shipt transaction I have seen in my store has been tax free!

The customer pays tax on their end. It won't show as being taxed twice

In WA State customers are no longer eligible for tax exceptions at the register. They must send their receipts into the irs for a redemption. Cashiers can now get written up for pressing the tax except button because you'd basically be giving them money. I don't make the rules I just enforce them when I'm on duty. My job is more important than a customer throwing a hissy fit yelling screaming fiesta over some $2.00 bull ****.
