Store Managers let anyone work for them, then when the place looks like crap because these people can barely fog up a mirror they are firing store managers.   See how that works store managers?  Hire better people.

better ppl? Lol.. With what resources? SM don't set wages. "Better" ppl are going else where for higher starting pay. Those better ppl also don't want to work for a company like Kroger because of its atrocious lack of work life balance, miserable employee atmosphere. If you do get a "better" ppl.. They tend not to stay long. SM are caught up in this mess coorate has created.

I know this page is mostly traveled by people who love being sarcastic, but it the pay actually horrible where you're at? I know in my area, it's actually pretty decent. Not the best. When you factor in the benefits and the union, though, it would be hard to find better. Again, in my area.

Well the pay does suck here(Mid-Atlantic). A lot of people up and quit a lot, they find better jobs. I guess that pay more and you cant get full time here at Kroger. I have to work all the hours Im offered just to get something on my paycheck. We have bills to pay. If I found a better job that paid more, I would take it and leave Kroger in a heartbeat. Why stay here if you have a better oppurtunity? You cant expect really great people to work for crap pay.

I've been there for 13 years and I only make 12.50 an hour. I work a second job in a Cafe and they hired me on for $15 an hou .

The pay is indeed terrible.  Around here, you'll be within a dollar of minimum wage for years and years.  Walmart pays a higher starting wage, Target higher still, and then McDonald's/Jack in the Box is way above that.  The two real killers, though, are the hours and scheduling.  You just can't pay many bills at 20 hours a week, even with government assistance.  And, the scheduling is basically random except set in stone.  If you have any kind of responsibility outside of work, you will not be able to meet it.  Guaranteed.  This also has the side effect of weeding out responsible employees.

Around here, the benefits are incredibly cheap, and terrible.

The union is only useful for making it difficult or impossible to fire bad employees, but that's only if you can get them to pick up the phone.

OP, you need to step it up.  There isn't one store in the whole country with an overstaffed front end.  At least make it believable.  And aren't the gay employees always black?  Taking a break from racism?
