No moving up at all!!!

I have worked in Fuel for almost 5 years now Full Time. Every other position I had the opportunity to apply for I get the same answer. You did great on the interview but the current person who had only been with the company for 2 months will get the position and full time. We can offer you the part time position if you like. I am going to leave Kroger now that I have applied for 6 positions in the last 2 years and I cant move up or get a different position!! End of rant!!

Welcome to Kroger no promotional opportunities for us minimum wage peons. As a 10+ year individual with the companies promotional opportunities rarely come along. I found they generally go to favorites and minimum wage individuals. If you want to be promoted more quickly start transferring to stores that require the positions you desire. Just means you won't have a home base for a while. Could be six months here fifteen months there. One must apply for the opportunities as they come along. This is a quick way to go up the ladder.

I was a fuel center clerk for two years. Toward the end of my tenure at the fuel center, I was increasingly bored with the day-to-day routines and the slow paced night shifts. I expressed my irritation numerous times with management (who I admit, were good listeners). I signed postings, even asked to drop down from full time to part time, just to go to another department. They finally took note when I politely handed in a month's notice of departure. My favorite assistant manager at the time actually drove out to the fuel center to get gas and asked me if I were interested in being a courtesy clerk or working at Starbucks. I went for the latter and subsequently became a Deli/Bakery clerk. I am currently in the running for backup position. Try and politely put in your notice, give the management plenty of time to think it over and you might get offered a different position so you could be noticed more.
