Are you obligated to let a customer "help you" (get in your way) of bagging their groceries? How can you tell them politely that you do not need their help without offending them? I've tried moving aside and bagging and they got offended and acted like I told them to back off. Do you have to let them "help you" if they ask?

Of course they're obligated to bag their own groceries (after all they did pay for it.) I always let a customer help me bag as it makes it go quicker in my opinion. Most of the time they don't bother me as I box easy stuff such as boxes and cans while I let them bag there produce, meat, eggs/bread etc. Just ask if they need your help bagging, and if not just move on to another cashier station as they might need help.

Yes. In fact, you can get in trouble if the customer decides to get nasty about it. At our store when bagging customers are NEVER "in the way" according to management. They bo
ught the groceries so they have a right to say how it is bagged and by whom.
Did you make a slight face as you moved aside? Even beneath the mask customers can tell if you are happy about their help. They read the eyes and go from there. It doesnt bother me if a customer helps. It makes it go by faster.

They haven't bought the groceries until the transaction is complete. And I would keep bagging if they told me they had it I would walk away.
