When all else fails-is being rude ever justified? What situations would warrant it in your store (or what has actually happened in your store that led to that point?)

Never justified to be rude.  Best policy is to kill them with kindness.

A lot of people are too stupid to know better.  Others might be the crazy one that pulls out a weapon to cause harm.

Life is too short to be bothered by petty stuff.

I can't agree.  If someone starts yelling when I say "hello" at SCO then I'm not putting up with that sh!t. If I have explained to you in 10 different ways why you still have to pay for your non-food to get your receipt and you are screaming in my face then no.  The verbal gloves are coming off.  I will be firm and direct and happy to call a manager if they want one.  We don't get paid for that.

Rude is in the eye of the beholder.  Troublemakers cannot be satisfied.  Behave exactly as if you are being audiovisually recorded, follow whatever dopey script the company gave you and summon a manager.  As we work through the recession be on the lookout for job opportunities.
