How to opt out of union
Permalink

My son who is 16 has no idea what he was doing and opted into the union. They made it sound great- well  the free chips they gave and the offers of lower kings island tickets won him over until he started getting almost 18 taken out every pay check! W  The kid only works 4-5 hours a week!   what can be done about this? its ridiculous to have HALF of your pay check going to union dues at 16!

If store is union you have to pay into the union. If you don't want union then you'll need to find another job. I recall a similar post to this not that long ago. Are you sure you're not the same individual. It is not illegal nor a scam to force employees to join a union job. It's only $75 for three months or $10 every other paycheck. If you didn't want a union job then why did you join?

If you are an active employee you must pay union dues. To be active you must do a minimum of one 4 hr shift a month. it is not ridiculous to have union dues every check. Find another job. Don't bi-tch about it.

In some states, joining the union is mandatory.  I think California is an example.

Yes, when hired, they slip you a form to sign up for the union.  Very difficult to opt out but possible if you are persistent.

Google to see if your state is a "Right to work" state or not.  I think that means you can opt out of the union but enjoy the benefits.

If your son is just using Kroger as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, I think he should try to opt out of the union too if possible.

I pay the union dues for medical insurance and pension benefits and it works fine for me.

Ask your union rep what percentage of your dues is "donated" to left-wing politicians of a single party that begins with "D," and it is highly unlikely that they will give you a stright answer. Then ask yourself if political donations will ever improve your life, or just reduce your desposable income.

That is correct, it is now federal law that you have the right to opt out of the corrupt union, even in non right to work states. Instead of giving your money to politicians and "hard-working" union officials, save and invest it for your retirement.

In commie states, you are required to pay unoin dues.  If you doint watch out, they night represent you.

In "right to work states", you don't becuielk the union is toothless, indifferente, and has banker's hours becuase **** you.

My state is turning pr urple a little more every day, except the the unouni  rep is a night stockre becauses **** you.

This next part is important, and I typed it quite a lot of few times tjust to be sure.  This job is driving me to alcoholism, and I was going to make some other meaningful statement.

Unions are dead in America, and any kind of benefits they may offer are like to be derided as COMMUNIST NONSENSE.

The union is complely and toally beyond worthless, much like my spellchjechker.

UI got distracted on YToutube.,

Unions are for people with real jobs with real benefits and full time hours.

That';s.... ... not.

Unions are for people who foolishly believe that setting up a payroll deduction to pay a portion of their income to corrupt politicians of a single party will somehow make their lives better in the long run. How has this worked for union members in the last hundred years?

Works pretty well cause it keeps all the fat ass no working **** ups from Losing there jobs. Example. a fat black ass girl was drinking sodas from the fountain at the bakery. They caught her said you cant do that and was gonna terminate her. She called her rep and she got to keep her job.

If you are union store you must join the union. It's not wrong to force someone to join a union job. It is NOT optional to opt out of it. You have one option: Quit. If you're earning too few hours yes the union will probably commandeer it all.

Please stop repeating this post every three weeks. Why not call the union rep on behalf of your son. ufcw.org. contact your union rep. If you fail to pay into the union they will fire you/them. If a payment is missed then paid they will write it off as a clerical error. Happened a couple times with me then I went to direct paycheck withdrawal. Unions are not scammers, nor wrong doer's. The negative b.s. floating around the internet is bogus. These conspiracy theorists have never held a union job before. Half of these people don't have steady employment. I know I use to follow some of them as a hobby. After having enough non union jobs the protection is nice. There are plenty of non union jobs out there. Just go up or down the road and you'll find one. Most fast food restaurants offer $15/hr. Why not go to one of them?

Please don't be one of those miserable employees that wants to quit but won't. Then drags everyone around them down because they're miserable. Please just quit. It's not optional to opt out of a union job. It's in the frig-gen contract. Few states offer it but it doesn't sound like the one you're in does not.

No. People can opt out of the union if they wish no to be in it anymore.

You are correct, it has been federal law for several years now that union membership is optional. Mandatory union membership was challeged very effectively in court by those who opposed it based on religious objections (i.e. some unions have contributed to Planned Parenthood) and/or on the basis that most unions make large political donations, which not all members may agree with. I urge you to do some research on the "Beck Decision." This was an important Supreme Court case regarding union dues and their unfairness.

The state of GA is a Right to work state so no one can force you to join the Union.
