So a customer TRIED to get me in trouble.

I stopped at a Dollar Tree after work. I forgot to take my apron off. I'm walking around I hear "excuse me, SIR EXCUSE ME, IM TALKING TO YOU HEY!!!  I turn around and this old bat is bitching at me for ignoring her. She then preceded to ask me a bunch of dumb questions I say ma'am I don't work here. She just gave me a dirty look and said she was going to call my boss. She did, said I was really rude to her and he said ma'am he's not on the clock in the store he doesn't have to help you in another store off the clock. She said she was calling corporate.

I'm sure she will leave out a few details, but its not really going to matter.  "Calling Corporate" is like talking to a black hole at times, the person answering the phone call is just going to type the information into the computer and indicated a complaint was filed.  If they believe it was a extreme issue, they might email the Store Manager or District Manager.

When you turned around she should have noticed the lettering that clearly spelled out where you actually worked.  Unless you had one of the plain solid blue ones I've seen other employees wear. Still a good one, though.

Your post leaves more questions than answers.   What "questions" was she asking you?   Were they pertaining to Dollar Tree?   Or to Kroger?  How does she know who your Kroger boss is?    Is she a Kroger regular customer who knows you and knows what store you work at?

Something sounds weird here. I would have been friendly and polite and answered her questions IF I knew the answer. If I didn't know the answer  I would have said "I'm so sorry but I don't know, since I don't work here, but lets find someone who does work here so they can answer you" and then look around for a Dollar Tree employee.    If she kept being hateful I would have realized she probably has mental issues or drug issues.  Just my opinion though.

HA HA That is pretty funny. I made it a point to never ever ever ever go into another store with my Kroger Uniform on. No excuses for going in with Uniform. My apron was off before I clocked out while standing at the clock.

Also I used to have a extra shirt if I did go in another store I would wear that shirt. But like Kroger-Employee said something does sound weird. Sometimes people did ask me where something is and I told them I did not work there. No one ever demanded that I did.

I will say this I went into a restaurant a few days ago and ordered. Order was ready I told the lady my name she said "No your name is _____" she accused me of not knowing my own name and was about to give me someone else's order. I was like oh WOW am I dumb?

Show her your kroger apron and tell her you don't work here. If you're off the clock and at another store doing a personal errand and they have a tiff with you that's not a valid excuse. I wore a red shirt into target once and a customer thought I was an ass hole for not giving them customer service. Don't worry if they complain kroger can't do sh-it about it because you were off the clock and not at a kroger location. Dollar Tree can't do shi-t about it because you're not a dollar tree employee. Dollar tree is not union and not with our union. Customer is an ass. If she figures out which location you work at: file a police report for stocking and harassment. Charges can be pressed if it goes too far.

All you had to tell her was "Sorry I don't work here." That's all you had to say. This is why you do not wear your apron off the clock outside of the store. I fold it up and carry it under my arm. No apron no service. I worked in an area where it got bad and I placed it inside a reusable bag when done. It's good you took your apron off or you would of represented kroger off the clock.

Small town, we've met. She is just a cranky old mean bat mad at the world. She might have thought she was in Kroger I have no idea. She just called the store and asked for the manager.

I've had that happen a few times. I did help however as best I could then explained I dont work at xxx store I was in. The customer thanked me and then said "you're more polite than these asshats that actually work here."
Umm.... I'm not so sure about that, but if you come at me nice I will do my best to help, but come at me sideways, I'm not gonna be too pleasent.

Had a similar situation at a local Harbor Freight.  Customer says "excuse me!, I said EXCUSE ME!" I thought he was talking to someone else, but he was talking to me.  I inform him I don't work here and he says "Well you're wearing a name tag!"

I had to tell him it says the name of the hospital I work at, not Harbor Freight.
