Michigan stores are closing at 10 PM...Must be a thing now, maybe due to staffing issues???

In the Dallas Division we have remained open from 6 am to 1 am during and currently even in the pandemic.

Doubtful. It's hard to find people to cashier third shift.

I don't know if we ever had 24h stores here.

Around here, we close at 11:00.  Pre-covid, midnight.

It's probably a shrink thing that got blamed on covid.  My store is a bit ghetto, so I am convinced we've only lost money after 11:00 pm and often 10:00 pm.

If we make money after 10:00, it's because there's some weird religious cult (7th Day Adventists or something?) that loves to shop after their religious services.

At one time stores were open 24 hrs. They stopped before COVID. But yesterday I looked at my iPhone on google maps it showed 24 hrs. for my local Kroger. But now on my Desktop it shows 11pm but I think it's actually 1 am.

Some of the information on Google Maps can be YEARS old.  I'd never trust that.    The only way to know for sure is to call the store. And even then, if you don't talk to a manager you may get a wrong answer from a regular employee who hasn't kept up with the constant changes......

Nope I'm glad. It sucked working until 1 am as a cashier mostly watching people steal booze and full shopping carts. Then getting harassed by customers refusing to take orders through sco large or small. Only to find out sorry the tills were pulled at 11 pm.

At one time Google Maps did say close 11 PM and also one time at 1 AM. Now my local store says 24 hrs.

I wouldn't expect any stores to go back to staying open after 11PM anytime soon. Hell, the heyday of store going 24/7 that happened in the 90's is over, before COVID they were basically closing most location at 12AM/1AM. With the change in shopping patterns and deliver/pickup, I would expect stores to close at 11PM for the long term future.

There were 4 stores in my town but 1 closed due to theft. Ironically, it had been the last hold out to stay open 24 hrs/day.

There'd been another ft one but that one switched to closing at 11 a couple yrs before covid.

I don't think we're going to see a return to all night stores. All the chains have blamed covid for this, but between theft and online ordering it's just not profitable to keep those hrs any more.

Agreed, fast food places are also doing this.  Hell, some national chains are closing at 8PM, no inside eating and there doesn't look to be any change in sight.  In reality, is there really a staffing shortage, or rather just people not wanting to work at specific places?  Personally, in my area the company doesn't have a "cool" place to work vibe.  Also, is it just me or are the stores looking cluttered, trashy and not organized? Why does the store need a pallet drop of Tide, Paper Towel, and everything else that are not really a "great deal".

No.

Wages have been artificially suppressed for decades to the point where a single-earner will struggle to afford any apartment in a major city.
