I caught a department head stealing. Should he get fired?

Yesterday while working overnight grocery at 3:00 am I accidentally caught the produce manager

stealing energy drinks. It was off night no truck just conditionMing and only 

two of us in grocery. The produce manager is scheduled for 3 a.m. in the mornings, and he always 

joking with me calling me Boss Man because Ive been working at Kroger 38 years and thats how old 

that he is also. He sounds sarcastic calling me Boss man like he is making fun of me, because Im not a

boss man like he is. Well, I reported him to the other stocker that was in charge 

when the grocery manager and the assistant lead is not there. So, I also decided to confront him about stealing

and I had my audio recorder on my iPhone recording. He denied it at first and I said that we had the evidence from the garbage 

where he threw the packaging and that I reported him already, and I said that he needed to make it 

right. So, he gave in and confessed and he paid for the item at the Uscan while I  witness the purchase.

plus, I gave the recording to my grocery manager when they came in later. They said that he would only get a warning.

Do you think he should be fired? My grocery manager said that he should not be stealing like that because produce managers

make $26.00 per hour. Maybe he gets a thill out of stealing.

Dunno, we had one (department head too) stealing groceries at self-checkout for over 6 months before they finally fired him, so dunno.

Yes this is theft. This is one of the few things that can get employees immediately fired. Please report him! It will only end when someone reports it. 

This is actually what a disabled c.c. was doing. he thought he was exempt from the system and started eating food without paying for it. No one was willing to report it because he was low functioning autistic. Knew damn well what he was doing. I eventually said f' it and reported him. Got investigated and 4 months later fired. 

I can't tell you how many xcoworkers I've worked with that have gotten fired for stealing merchandise. 

I work near a store that fired the entire deli staff for taking home the food at the end of the day instead of tossing it. This happened in 2021.

I think you should be fired for wasting company time with all your investigating. if someone is stealing just let it slide. just think of it as rodney paying for it with his 22 million dollar bonus

Rather than be a snitch why not ask to partner up? Yall could be a duo like Dom and Brian. Get in on the action it pays off believe me.

It depends on if hes well liked. If he is the most he may get is a write up, or store transfer. But I would keep quiet. If he gets caught then that's on him. If he discovered that you snitched him out, then it may cause problems for YOU. Unless its life threatening then Shhhhhh.....

The company is watching. If kroger thinks they cannot rely on your 'discretion' you could find yourself in a world of daily hurt until you quit 'voluntarily'. They are mostly interested in finding out who might think about going outside the company for any reason at all. This does not sound too bad, but now they have learned something about how you handle things, how you think. Don't consent to talk with coworkers about it. Could be a test. Take care.

Move on to a better company.

I did report the mother f*#er for stealing. Some of the employees are upset

that he did not get fire, because another produce employee didnt get fired for stealing either 

before I caught this **** head.

 You should have blackmailed him. That extra income a month could come in handy. Eventually he would cave in and not want to pay you the black mail money and he would just quit. But it could have gone on for months maybe a few years
